A tale of unexpected efficiency and shambolics..
I decided on some private plates for the motor... I somehow managed to find a 5 digit plate with my initials within.... I went direct to the DVLA and saved about £150 from the mark up that the number plate sites do...
Within days the documents all appeared so I could transfer them to my e90.... At the same time I ordered some plates from a decent plates vendor that I have used on the net... Now the fun starts.. When I ordered the plates the site 'shop' processed my order, took my money and then displayed the message that the people running it were moving premisis and wouldnt be processing or sending orders until the 17th.. OK I thought.. the process of switching the registrations would take time... What turned up in the post on Wednesday... 2 working days later.. Yep... new tax disc, new MOT and temporary reg doc... So my plates arent even made and I am going away for a couple of weeks... No other choice but to go to my local Halfords.. So I went there and wasted 30 mins of my life as after the saga of taking all the secuity and registration details the plonker doing the plates realised he didnt have certain letters... It then took the manager and check out Doris ages to refund the 9 items that made up the plates.... Of I went to another Halfords.... THREE attempts at making the plates later..... Fecking hopeless... The first on had digit missing from the plate..... The second was all wonky... So... ultra efficiency from part of the process that I thought would take ages an muppetery from the bit that I didnt even consider would be an issue.. Anddddd brreath... |

Bah! Bloody halfords are only good for oil and cleaning products on 3 for 2.
A decent motor factors should have been able to do it much better and all you need is the reg doc. Still, at least it's sorted now.

you could have just left it on old reg & old tax disc until you're ready lol
ebay ones have been fine, just order show plates and then you don't have to waste time showing your docs, and no BS number either

I recently added private plates and had a similar experience with Halfords.
I could not fault DVLA...... They were fast and very helpfull at my local office when changing all the docs. Halfords were useless! first plate was full of bubbles (after 40 mins of waiting) and when i asked the guy to make the plate again without the bubbles he said he that was the best he could do! Another 40 mins and another assistant did manage to do it ok, but i would never use them again for anything that didn't come in a bottle! |

You would have been better going to your local BMW dealer. £9 for the pair including new fixings. Took all of 10 minutes from the moment I walked in.

Yep all good suggestions but I am going away today and I couldn't wait two weeks! Plus the dealer is a distance away and not open on Saturday mornings to do this. Anyway sorted now and a lesson learnt. |

I had exactly the same experience with Halfords.
First attempt they had the letters in the wrong order then on the second attempt the plate was covered in bubbles to which they replied "It's done by hand". Took the lady on the till ages to refund if because the cost is broken down into about 8 parts! |
