iDrive Address Book - Funny Alphabet Sequence with Special Character

I started my car this evening and the address book alphabet sequence looked weird on the Navi display.

Has anyone has this problem? I tried changing screens on the display, I tried restarting the car immediately as well as after an hour and no change. Should I just take it to the stealer?

whoa that's weird.. I have been getting something similar but not as bad. I get an occasional period mark between a few of the letters.

The periods are supposed to be there. They represent letters with no associated option in the list. Never seen the dollar sign though...

Periods are supposed to be there to represent the skipped alphabets. Last evening everything went back to normal after I posted but only to show up identical to the pic today. When I select any of the alphabets, it displays names that start with that alphabet. If I select the "$" sign, it displays Home Address.

I sent the pic to my SA and he asked me to refer the owners manual but I do not see anything like (because this is abnormal) this in the owners manual. Anyway, I scheduled an appointmet for the end of the month along with my 15,000 mile service.

What special characters do you have in your phone book? In some programming languages, $ and @ can refer to variables, which I could see iDrive getting confused with. You might have discovered some crazy overflow (or just broken your iDrive, who knows)!

No one is talking about a phone book here. Look at the pic in the first post!

When you put in a destination, on the first character you should get the whole alphabet. As you continue entering letters, the only ones that will be displayed (and selectable) are those that match destinations in the database. For example, very few towns start with WX so on the second letter, the X is replaced with a . and can't be selected. You'll also notice that as you enter the letters the list of the towns blinks and changes as names get eliminated from selection contention.

On the address book screen it works in a similar manner. The only letters initially available are those of the entries in the address book. If there isn't any name there beginning with B then you get a . instead.

The phone book does the same, too.

Thanks but all those links talk about the phone book. I had this issue on my iDrive navigation address book and somehow it corrected itself in a couple of days. I did send a pic to my SA and he hadn't seen or heard of the issue and I scheduled an appointment to get it fixed. Before I could bring my car in, everything was back to normal and I cancelled my appointment. I hope it stays normal.

I have the same issue in my car (selecting the $ will take you to your "Home" address).

The SA didnt do anything about it, although I told him it wasnt that big of a deal. It doesnt impact anything else, so I'm living with it for now.

If a new Nav update becomes available (I got mine update about 8 months ago), then I might have to push this issue harder

Let me know if the dealer resolves this one for you.

The issue resolved itself in a couple of days and all is well now. Didn't talk to my SA about it since it wasn't an issue anymore.

I rebooted my iDrive and it went away. Since updating to the new v29.xx of the PROGMAN, I have not had this issue.
