Hello, I am installing a wireless backup camera in my 08 335. The instructions for the unit says to wire the transmitter to the reverse light. Does anyone know which wire is the correct power wire?

Get a friend to put it in reverse with the brake on and you can test the pins with a test light. Test again while in park to find out which one of the ones lit up was the brake light

I may have to resort to that. I seem to have misplaced my multimeter so I was hoping someone here might know the proper wire by color.

According to the TIS circuit diagram for the "Reversing Lights" for your 2008 model, the Left Reverse Light power wire from the FRM to the bulb holder (E46a) is Black/Violet, at Pin #3 of Connector X319. Here is the TIS circuit diagram, and also the "Connector View" for connector X319:

TIS circuit diagrams are "interactive"; clicking on a BLUE component ID# such as "X319" allows you to get other information such as "Installation Location" or "Connector View."

The Right Reverse Light power wire is Black/Blue, at Pin #4 of Connector X318 at bulb holder E47a. Here is the "Installation Location" for all those components:

Well despite the instructions indicating that the PWM on the reverse light not being a problem - the camera will only work when the ignition is on. So I have one of the car camera filters on order, but I have seen others suggesting a relay. This camera wouldn't have any issue being powered on constantly, so with that being said: is there any non-PWM wire I could tap in the trunk that is activated upon ignition?

From what I’ve seen, the passenger side reverse light positive wire was blue/blk. I connected to this and it doesn’t trigger the back up camera. What I’ve sent today is that it is the gray/blue wire. I’ll be trying that today.

I know this post is very old but I wanted to add somewhat an answer to your question instead of adding more tasks for you to do rather than name which write it should be. I hope we all have success adding backup cams!
