Service Advice

Light came on and went to an indy shop to get my key read. This is what he came back and quoted me with to clear my service light:

1. $50 - diagnosis test, check control messages, check indicator/warning lights, reset CBS display

2. $102 - standard vehicle check (operation, air conditioning, lighting, corrosion, tires, battery, coolant, etc.)

3. $120 - oil change

Total $273 + tax

Does this sound reasonable? I've seen lower oil change prices at dealerships during specials and I feel like overall this is pretty high.

Dude, you got so freakin ripped it is not even funny. $300 for an oil change and to reset service indicator. Ugh.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Next time do your homework, i found that special in 10 seconds!!!!

Oh ok, whew. I would stay away from the dealer that gave you that quote. You should also always tell them don't do anything without your approval.

wow 70 bucks for an oil change at a bmw dealership. the best i found from sacramento is 99

Okay, if you are doing your homework then really do some. Go read the owners manual and the service manual and educate yourself on how the Conditioned Based Service (CBS) system works. The E9X tells you exactly what service is due and when. There is no reason why you can't find out what service is required when the service indicator comes on before taking it to a mechanic for service.
