Checked on AIS ... as of 02/27 13:00

Heading west, AIS caught her as she was under the Bayonne Bridge, working its way around the west of Staten Island ... Don't forget to factor in 1-2 hour lag ...

Any leads on Staten Island Webcam possibly catching her...

Did you note the approximate time of departure ??
Ok....y'all might want to go ahead and drink to your hearts' desires, but only so you can cope with another stop before Charleston!! According to W&W, there are 2 (TWO) NY stops before Charleston, and with only one stop finished, there's yet another to go! My guess the movement we're seeing to the west (I expected her to go south), is her trek to another pier.

Now...what I want to know is when did they slip this extra stop in on us???

Honestly, while others often explain how difficult the wait can be, and it was while my car was still in Germany being built and awaiting transport, the actual trip over has been more than tolerable because of everybody's involvement with this thread. I really felt like I wasn't in this alone, and it has helped immensely. Clap and kudos to everybody onboard the DJ!!!
Well said. Usually people dread the wait - this thread has made the wait very fun and enjoyable. We all got pretty lucky to have such a fantastic group of shipmates. I third that notion - "Clap and kudos to everybody onboard the DJ!!! "

Oh...and just an FYI, but no_exit's message following my last was the 2119th...making this thread the 2nd most viewed behind only the "Who has already placed their order??" Given it has well over 27,000 views, doubtful this one will ever catch up unless future Don Juaners post here as well for tradition's sake. But hey! Not bad for a little ole "who's onboard" thread, eh? Congrats folks...again!

EDIT: I'm all screwed up. No_exit's message was just that...a message. Views are a completely different animal. Anyway....we're as I stated.

Well, that explains the Westward movement. I wondered about the double NYC entry in the schedule... thought it might have been an error.

Based on the file times of the screenshots I took, departure from NYC was between 10:54 and 11:57 - let's put it at 11:30 (since she was nowhere in sight at 11:57)

A quick check of AIS shows she's now docked again at Port Newark... Tick Tock... Tick Tock...

I believe the bill of lading indicated SC was the final destination port. Is "final port of destination" VOYAGE-centric, or PORT-centric?...I don't know. Withough seeing a bill of lading for NJ, I can't be sure their's doesn't also say SC as the final port of destination, indicating said information indicates only where the ship will FINALLY go irrespective of drops along the way. I also spoke with two other people on this or another board who both indicated their vehicles went through SC, but one of those said "some" go through NJ. Anybody?

But yes, I agree with your observation...vehicles destined for the UPPER midwest region should go through NJ. At least it makes more sense...

No offense taken at all. When people ask me what I do for a living and I know they won't have any understanding of what I truly do if I try to explain it to them, I always just tell them I am a "computer geek". That usually gets a big nod and an "ah, I see. Sounds interesting" kinda answer. I don't fit the stereotype in the least but I do think it could even be considered a compliment to be called a "geek"

Shipmate Fletcher: The bill of lading are indeed port-centric ... there are shipments bound for NY (total 830) and shipments bound for Charleston (total 1,574) on the same voyage, these are all in serial order. Was not able to find canada bound, though.

Shipmates, what gives with the NY double stop? Any clues/leads ... ?? Location gives it at Port Newark?

edit: location seems to be the Port Newark Containter Terminal

Port Newark is one of the most flexible multi-purpose cargo centers in the United States. Its facilities include wharves, deep-water ship berths, and 3 million square feet of buildings distribution buildings, specialized facilities, roadways and direct rail access.

My guess is the D J is going after the: Direct rail service by NS and CSX for tank cars, and box cars handling non-containerized cargo such as liquid and dry bulk and scrap metal.

But what about VPC?

Perhaps the D J is getting serviced ... restocking of supplies and fuels?

Well its 17:25 EST, just checked the AIS images and noted no change in location... wondering if there will be a +1 day departure?

Speaking of, the Don Juan has yet to show up on the vessel schedule over at Charleston ...

http://www.port-of-charleston.com/vessel_schedule.asp

I am seeing scheduled arrivals (spanning the entire month of March) for patriot, courage, franconia, marble highway, liberty, intergrity, ingolstadt, liberty etc ... but no Don Juan??

It's 19:00 EST, and she's just under way according to AIS (at least one hour lag). Hasn't even moved away from the pier, but green.

I noticed the other ships also, but figured somebody didn't enter the DJ into whatever database they use to publish on the web (you'd think it would be the same one they use for actual scheduling, but who knows?). Surely they know it's on it way!?

I looked at it relatively closely in Google Earth, and if you look at the 2nd pier north...you'll see tons of cars parked on the pier. I assumed there were some cars dropped off there also, but with the BMW center at Port NJ, I'm not sure what they were doing there...but my initial thought was like yours...fueling, or picking up some bulk supplies?

Thanks! That confirms my vehicle is bound for SC. Still doesn't make any sense to me, but again, I'm not the one making monetary-influenced decisions. I'm sure BMW has legitimate reasons for shipping cars bound for the northern midwest from SC and not NJ though.

I was up at 6:45am, but it took me about 15 minutes to figure out my alarm clock was going off. Instead I thought it was a police boat siren sounding in my dream while I was showing my girlfriend where I used to hunt mushrooms...some 300 miles south of here in a different season! I was fine after I got my shower and had some coffee though!

Yep...that's the quintessential response I provide when I start getting those blank looks...routers...switches...egress points...blah...blah...blah...

Hehe....I like when AISLive updates show the ship in one position, and the red circle (which I suspect is the correct location) in another. I've seen this several times now...anybody else?
