Anyway, looks great and nice improvement.
If this is going in the stock air box then I really don't think 5" will fit.
It was hard enough to get the 3" conector in there.

That was just a single example. There are many different sized bellmouths out there. Anyway, just a thought if an manufacturer is looking for a new product.

I hear ya.
I really love the bellmouth idea though.

Very cool, Mr. 5!

Questions though - so you're using 2 filters now? Is that really necessary? Won't that alone reduce the volume of air getting to the engine? Curious to understand your reasons...

I guess we'll see if it's worth it after your v-box runs. I just feel like if you really wanted to put time into "your" intake, you would make it decent, and not just a bunch of JB weld and flex hose.

Granted, this one does look better than your first try. I'm thinking it will be definitely better than the DCI.

I'll try this for my solution with a 2.5" hose http://www.velocity-of-sound.com/com...rchant_id=2107

I always used 2 filters with this setup (1 panel and 1 cone).
I was always using the panel filter because something needs to be there to filter the air going through the OEM ducting.
The second filter is in the bumper area.

i like it, looks good - i wouldn't do much else and plan to replicate this when it gets warmer out.
i don't think bigger tubing would help more at this point, focus should be on cool dense air which should be acheived here. considering size of intake/outlet piping at the turbos i would think air volume needed would be met with this set-up...
good work

there is a shortage of stock airboxes so using the exisiting one is a fine option, we need to find a way to plug an existing hole when going back to stock.

There are actually a lot of intakes out there. Some of us just like to innovate and create solutions that cost less and work better than the bigger market tuners out there.

We have yet to see any data whatsoever that says this works better than anything.

Not yet, but it's quite obvious that this would work better than the OEM air box alone. Wouldn't you agree?

To be honest, I do not know because most of my testing was DCI versus CAI. I think there are some physics questions on how the box is affected when you put a hole in there, especially in higher speed situations. I think for me to make any statement would be pure speculation though.

I know you are a trustworthy guy and a valuable forum member, so I am looking forward to seeing your results.

I see what you're saying because there could be the possibility that the air coming from the OEM ducting could be making turbulance with the air coming from the hole, but given the amount of power that I am getting, I doubt this is the case.

You and I are on the same path, so I know whatever you experiment with is irrelevant in what you choose. I know you want your car to be the fastest it can be and you will not settle, so I will enjoy your findings.

Honestly this could go either way, i agree, it makes sense that it should make a few more ponies. But engines are greatly effected by air flow, and just adding holes to things can sometimes causes air turbulence that slows things down. In the past, I've worked on custom intakes for cars, making parts, getting it on the dyno and just trying ideas. Helps to have a good friend with a Mustang dyno =). Cheers to you mr. 5 for doing this!!! it's people like you that help everyone out!

And hell, we've gotten 10 HP from adding a cross pipe 5 inches past an x pipe... sometimes things just work. Just gotta try...

I'll be doing some 60-100 mph testing this weekend with the following setups:

-Stock Airbox
-DCI
-Mr. 5 Intake

I'll try to do 3 runs each but I don't know if I'll have the time so I may do 2 runs.
I'll log the runs with the Vbox and also do logging with the BT cable to see if my turbos are working easier or harder with each setup.

The last time, I went with the 60-130 runs but I really wanted to take out the shift variable.
