WTF did I just see a 1 series wagon?

I just saw a red 1 series wagon (like an e91) driving in the D.C. area (right in front of Ft. Myer on Washington Blvd. heading towards clarendon/ballston for those of you familiar with the area)

First of all I did not even know they made this car, second of all it is ugly as sin.

I don't see a wagon anywhere on bmwusa? Am I missing something here?

+1. If they ever made a 135i as a wagon in the States, it would be very high on my list for a 2nd (semi-practical) car. IMO the 3 door version looks better than almost all other sport hatches on the market (A3, GTI, Mazdspeed3, new WRX STI), and the 5 door frankly isn't all that shabby either.

Yikes, I know hatches are all the rage in Europe, but I personally think they are ugly as hell. Then again, the regular 1s aren't much better.

It didn't have a front license plate and I couldn't see the back as it was coming from the opposite direction. It looked brand new. It was shiny and clean. Seeing how its been raining here in D.C. for the past few days whoever owns it didn't take it out.

So are these things really not available here or is it just a matter of having them shipped over? It must not be that hard?

It was most likely a diplomat.... the import all kinds of cars and don't have to follow US rules or regulations for cars.... I see all kinds of strange cars driving around DC.... I was following an Alfa yesterday on my way home
