I am just getting a little overwhelmed with the sudden activity on the forums... I know there's also that new CHIP currently in development which is promising some gains thorugh valvetronic tuning.

1. We know the 3-Stage Intake Manifold Swap works. It's good for 330 level power.

2. It can be installed without any additional changes to the ECU for a small gain. The stock ECU has the programming to work the adjusters, but not the appropriate mapping to take advantage of the new airflow.

Issues:

1. There is still no clear programming solution. Marcello has used the Powerchip tune, but continues to have issues with throttle lag that have yet to be resolved.

2. We have not seen the mod done yet with any other forms of ECU tuning.

3. We have no way of knowing how products like the Sprintbooster or the PBX might react with the ECU tuning. For all we know something like that might solve Marcello's throttle lag issue.

4. I'm still not sure where we stand with this mod for 328i owners. A lot of talk, but no one has come forward citing a sucessul 328 swapover.

5. There is another ECU tuning option that those of us considering this mod should be keeping an eye. The thread started by Craven 328 discusses the development of a system that takes advantage of valvetronic tuning to draw more power out of our engines. I got a response from Craven as I was writing this which I'll share:
"This tune is not a piggyback like the BMS, it completely changes the ECU coding.

It can be fully optimized for the 3 stage manifold, much smoother then the powerchips tune, i know that for a fact.

So you would still have a 325 ECU, but it would be coded to support the manifold so a 330 at heart, but with a 325 VIN tag."

On top of this I imagine we will see gains based on the valvetronic tuning as well.

All in all very exciting times for us E90 owners.

Lol... I've been trying to go the FI route, but won't do that with my warranty.

honestly I'm confused... maybe cuz I'm drunk too but hey....

If I do this mod ( parts only ) and basically have a 330 ready car and than get the "The Tune to End All Tunes" thread mods and reflash my 325 as a 330 ?

well, if I'll retrofit my single stage 325i to a 3 stage intake I'll have an official 330 right? at least parts wise. Let's say that I don't take your tune and I get the "Tune of al tunes" flash ( check the thread ) as if my car was a 330.
Will I be a modded 325 a bit higher than a 330 stock or will I be a modded 330 a bit lower than a 335 ?

after saturday we will all have some numbers to see where the swap will put you guys (maybe myself if I do it with my 328)

I think the 328 would need a manifold from the x3si though, not 100% on if they are the exact same.

All the 3 stage manifolds have the same part numbers.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates, I've had many things on my plate and couldn't work on this.

As far as the manifold goes, I bought it, received it and turns out it was clearly Visually broken so I sent it back and am waiting for them to source out another one.

Special thanks to Craven for working on the tune for this and some other custom work for my car

Edit: got my hp number at little bit wrong.

W00t!!!! Another 20 ft/lbs of torque and about 10 more peak HP! The charts will be posted tomorrow night. And best of all the throttle issues are gone! Jeramy at OE Tuning and everyone at Gintani are all awsome. They truly know what they're doing. They've got more than a few supercharged M3s ranging from E36 to E90.

Now, for a little bit of bad news... On the same dyno, a Z4 3.0si put out 214hp stock and 224 hp after the tune. Mine puts out 202.7. Oh well not really up to the goal we set but still good (remember 130,000 miles on my car). We also put the stock tuning back on my car and ran that as well. That put out about 190.6 hp and powerchip's tune put out 194.8 hp. The torque gains are amazing! Most of what we gained today was down low in the rpm range. The power delivery is much more linear too. The dyno used here is a bit stingy which is why some of you may wonder why I got 210hp on another dyno.

Everyone should get their car tuned here.

Sweet! Go ahead and post them. I won't be able to get to a computer until tomorrow night. And the ecu is adapting nicely, 6th gear pulls from 60mph are pretty nice. No more downshifting (of course you still can). No flatspots or hesitations in acceleration in any gear. It's perfect.
