19" vs 18" alloys

How do 19" non rf compare to 18" rf. Thinking of selling my mv3 alloys with ff and want to go non rf but don't know whether to go with 18 or 19's.

Pretty rough to be honest.

I'm on runflats and hear normal tyres are better but with 30/35 profile tyres don't expect miracles.

19s look so much better.

Had both with rf tyres ... Mv3 and 313's ... The 19" 313's ride far better and the car handles much sharper .... Fwiw, a 330d e92 lci.

i have 19 and changed from rfts to non rft. The improvement is unbelievable. I haven't driven on 18s with rft so can't comment as you've asked

Can't comment on the E(x but with previous cars, the ride difference going from 18" to 19" is massive. 16" to 17" is barely noticeable, 17" to 18" is noticeable but still relatively comfortable. Go to 19" or 20" and you may as well replace the suspension with blocks of wood.

19" look the nuts but don't kid yourself that it's going to be a comfortable ride, especially if you're on 18s now.

Change your RFT for normal tyres on the MV3s though, and your poor, jarred back will thank you every time you get in the car

My car on H&R springs with mv3s is hard enough already!!! I am upgrading to 19s, but I am going to be scared about hitting pot holes. Right now it feels like the strut wants to slam up through the bonnet! Sounds painful when you hit the unexpected ones

Let us know if you make the swap. I'm debating doing the same but don't really want a harder ride. I already get complaints from the other half about my stupid fast and hard car! Seems she preferred the SE E39 ride.

I had 18 RFT and got 17 RFT for winter. The ride is a stack better and I suspect that I will hate the 18 RFTs when I refit them in April. So the plan is to switch the 18 RFTs for 18 non-RFTs and stick with 17 RFT for winter when punctures are the biggest pain/danger. I'm (rashly) assuming that 1 inch equals the runflat difference. 19 RFTs must be hell.

Get the tyre pressures right and you won't really notice any difference.

lots of comments seem speculative about 19s on non rfts. My e93 on 19s non rft is just as comfortable as my mrs e46 on 18s non rfts. Ok different cars but comfort is comfort. I could say this when i was on 19 rfts.

i've tried 18 rf & nrf, 19 rf & nrf, and 17 nrf

i found 19 nrf fine, slightly softer / better ride if anything than the 18 rft - though i never tried them back to back (i tried 19 rft in between) - but on balance not much in it.

(i've also tried 265/30/19 nrf and 255/30/19 nrf back to back - the slight size change made no discernable difference)

Undecided on this myself, I suspect 18's will feel the road nicer & still have a sexy profile but 19's just look that little bit better!

I can only imagine how bad 19" would feel. I went against the populists and went smaller to 17". Still crap on rft but on normal tyres the ride is perfect.

The looks are definitely worth it. When I bought my 330D could have had the tyres changed to 18" but the 19's look so much better. With non RFT 19" the ride is ok if a bit crashy over potholes etc, it is a vast improvement over my previous 19 RFT.

A lot depends if your car is pre or post LCI when they changed the dampers to make them cope better with runflats. My coupe is pre LCI and was a bone shaker on 19" runflats. At least now with normal tyres the ride is a lot more acceptable.... (still have to watch our for potholes though!)
