A small good news story - so quite dull then
A few weeks ago, on a really wet day on the M8, I had to brake hard for a moment. The driver behind me didn't have good enough brakes and tail-ended me. It was an all-mighty bang but my wife only heard the loud noise, she felt no impact and didn't realise there had been an accident. Several actually, as there was a nice line of tail-end charlies about seven cars deep behind me.
I got out the car and for some reason, wasn't expecting a scene of devastation and right enough there were three well spaced dimples in the bumper and a tiny bit of scraped paint. My first worry on seeing it was an old Y registration Nissan was " no insurance?" and was slightly relieved to spot that the tax disc was current. He was having to deal with me and the guy who had run into the back of him but when we exchanged details, my heart skipped a beat when he claimed that his insurance company was called "Go Skippy". I looked at him and he shrugged and said he got them through an insurance web - site. O.K. details exchanged and I head for home with all sorts of thoughts going through my mind - like having to claim my own insurance for, apart from one cassette player theft, my first ever claim on my insurance. Askmid reassured me as the car was listed as insured and their web-site seemed to specialise in third party insurance. After all this, the telephone dealings with the insurance company went well enough - in fact the driver of the other car had already told them about it when I contacted them. I got a quotation from Park's in Glasgow, they authorised the repair, Park's gave me a courtesy car (a Fiat Panda!) and today the bumper, carrier, guide, underguards etc. were replaced and it's a perfect fit and match. There was no carry on about injuries (at maybe 2mph) Management companies, renting of cars at exorbitant rates, none of that stuff - though the estimator actually tried to put me onto a management company to handle the claim for me (kick-back there perhaps?). As a wee bonus, the door handle sticks open now and then which is quite common on 3'ers. Park's told me there was a simple fix for that and said they would do it free when the car came in for the new bumper. So, quite dull, everything worked out just fine, but it shows it really can happen. |

Good news in a way then Alan! I had a similar result when a young lad drifted into me at some lights because he was busy texting. No major damage to the TTS, but enough to need a repair and when he offered the services of his uncle's bodyshop I was expecting the worst. As it turned out it was a very professional outfit who did a superb job and repaired an alloy for next to nothing at the same time!
