How much rust is this?
Hey all - I'm hoping for some help from the crowd. I'm looking at a 2008 e91 which has spent it's life up in the Northeast. Unfortunately I'm not able to see it in person (I'm on the west coast), so I had a local shop (which sounds reputable) give it a once over for a PPI. I also have some pics (below) of the undercarriage. My question to you all: Is this too much rust? These are all the pics I have, I know winters in the NE can be tough on the undercarriage. The car has some mechanicals that I'll be fixing and am okay with, but one thing I don't want to deal with is a car which is eaten through with rust. Thoughts?
Thanks! |

Doesn't look terrible to me. The main bits that are rusty are mainly the nuts and bolts which isn't an issue I wouldn't think.

Looks like suffice rust, but still more than my 06. If it were me I'd want to investigate further.

Why not just look for one down south and bring it up there for the few hundred in transport fees that you'd save on replacing rusty parts..??

Rust = Headaches.
I always like to stay away from rust as much as I can! Especially vehicles from NE United States because they pretty much dump straight salt onto the roads in the winter. I know being from Canada, that in Ontario they use straight salt over the winter and it absolutely ruins cars. So if you want my $0.02, I would say just keep looking for something else (preferably not in that area). I agree with what BeastMode335i is saying, have a look down south and either get it transported or go for a roadtrip. Cars down there look like they don't age at all! Always makes me jealous seeing the cars in the southern states when I'm coming from Alberta! Good Luck OP! |
