Replaced head unit, lost Logic 7 capabilities

Greetings. I recently replaced the head unit on my 2006 BMW E90 330i with Logic 7 (Top HiFi) due to the old LCD going out. I got the replacement on eBay (from a wrecked car). The original HU had P/N: 6512 6971703 and the one I replaced it with had P/N: 6512 9178860-02. The original HU had Alpine branding and was made in Hungary while the current HU has no Alpine branding and is made in Czech Republic (it also has a copper heatsink). Anyway, this headunit ended up having the newer gong (see here), so I coded it properly to activate it (changed HU_VERBAUT from radiostufe_2 to radiostufe_3_4). All is well, except for two things... 1.) I seem to have lost my Logic 7 capabilities. The old HU had a graphic equalizer and an option for "Music" and "Cinema" (Logic 7 DSP modes). The new HU still has the graphic equalizer, but does not have the two Logic 7 DSP presets. Instead, it has one preset labeled "Room" which seems to mimic the "Music" preset (i.e. sounds similar). Is this happening because the replacement HU is not Logic 7 capable or...? Possible to code the HU to accept Logic 7 as before? I think the replacement HU has HiFi level settings. 2.) The replacement HU has an option for "Gong" volume which doesn't seem to do anything (it goes from -5 to 5, but no matter the setting the volume is the same). Normally, I wouldn't mind this. However, the gong is quite loud to the point of being uncomfortable. Any way I can lower the gong volume? NOTE: Here is the dump using NCS Expert of my 2rad module: Code:

dot not change specific options, simply code unit using your car option and all will work as expected

I don't see how there is any sound since it comes over the optic interface which is suppose to be disabled when set up for Hi Fi. At least that is what always happens when somebody buys and L7 programmed radio of the ebay and sticks in a Hi Fi system. |

It is odd that it worked with HiFi since (as you said) Top HiFi transmits a digital signal to the Logic 7 amp in the trunk where it goes through a DAC before being amped to the speakers. I know HiFi also has an amplifier, but it takes an analog signal that has already been through a DAC at the headunit. Odd indeed.
In any case, I was able to recode my HU to Logic 7 (Top HiFi) properly. Basically, all you need to do is to go into expert mode in NCS and then code the rad2 module to default from your VO. After that everything is back to normal. The gong volume adjustment is also working properly. Yay! |
