LOL. When I seen the original pics I didn't really like it but now when I see the latest pics (below) I think it looks good, especially the side profile. Only a few things I wish they would have changed:
- Headlights: don't like the two-part units; but they are much beter than the IS. - Taillights: don't like the smoked part which make it look outdated. - Rear bumper vents: are they real? even if they are the plastic strips look bad. - Interior: centre console is too flat. Seats also look very flat (typical Lexus). Overall though, for Lexus I think this looks great. I'm interested to see how the RC-F looks.

I think the side and rear profiles are the strongest for this car. I see some Maserati gran turismo design cues like someone mentioned previously. |

You know I'm curious to see how this would look in obsedian black. I think that would mask the "gaping" nature of the grill. I saw a 2014 IS coming up on my rear the other day in glossy pearl black and it looked pretty good actually.
Also I'm interested to see how they change the grill for the RCF model compared to the base RC350. |

And I don't think there's a bump in power of the N55 engine use in the new 435i. Last edited by cjwb1984; 11-04-2013 at 10:25 PM.. |

The grill is way too much IMO but holy shit the proportions looks great and the rear looks AWESOME. The three quarters shot makes the car look like a super car. At the end of the day it's still a lexus though, I couldn't see myself driving one.

Was given a 2014 is250 loaner for 4 days last week. The exterior is love it or hate it, personally I like it. The RC is even more controversial, I will reserve judgement until I see one in the wild. The IS does not have clean and classic lines of a cayman but it's aggressive. The interior is lovely, very driver centric. I can rest my right on the arm rest and the gear leveler, stereo and everything is within reach with moving my arm much. The chair, whoever said is flat, is a jewel, one of the most comfortable chair I have sat in a car. No it's not Herman Miller Eames chair comfortable however I did not want to get out.
For the first time the car is also fun to drive. The 250 I had was fun to toss around even without the f-sports package. You point the steering wheel and it just goes in that direction. I do not need to man handle it like I do with my gen 2 350. Steering feedback is on par with other electric assisted steering, accurate, not much road feedback but the wheel is a pleasure to hold in you hands, not too thick, feels just right. Interior quality is probably best in class in fit and finishing. You buy a BMW you know the energy is focused on chassis, in the Lexus it's in fit and finish. Lexus really delivered a competitive product this year.

Best looking car this side of the LF-A. Curvaceous, modern, and proportional. Except they gotta stop with the gaping hole front end. Very lazy design. They just slapped on a mask instead of designing it. Very appealing, but too bad their engine offerings will be boring until the real F comes.

-Headlights: I'm glad that they're preserving the two-piece design, more so out of principle and character rather than aesthetics. While I think it's fair to say that a traditional, slim set of concentrated headlights (like those featured on every other car in this class) is more handsome, I think that these are wholly unique, and that's a trait that's far too lacking in cars these days. And on top of that point, I'm glad that they reduced the amorphous detailing on the bottom end of the main housing. They're definitely toned down and more agreeable, and the upgraded LED internals certainly look more imposing and upscale compared to the four-door's. -Taillights: smoked taillights are definitely trendy, although that never bodes well for long-term aging. It's probably following the Lexus lineup's move to a younger image (specifically this model, because you know, two door coupes ain't got time for old peoples' lifestyles). I'm neither here nor there on this. I do like the 3D element they have going on with the brake light wraparound. -Rear vents: definitely didn't see those coming, and not sure I'm all about them. I'd like to imagine the design without them. Is anything lost by their removal? I don't think so, so I agree with you, they look bad (or unnecessary, at the very least). -Interior: love me some new-gen Lexus interior. I think they've done much better with material quality and design. The new language (carried into this RC) stresses horizontal lines and has a nice balance of industrial qualities with tech thrown into the mix. The incorporation of the nav is well thought out, too. I don't think the IP itself holds a candle to the German trio (especially after seeing what Mercedes has in store for its upcoming C-Class), but it's at least competitive. It is without a doubt far better than the horrid outgoing IS's interior, which I always thought was bottom-tier in its class. All-in-all, I'm glad that Lexus is continuing to forge a unique identity, both inside and out. We're at that point where we know what looks good as far as conservative proportions and detailing is concerned, so it's nice to see a model come out that breaks away from the mold, and does it well.

And one more thing. I think this really nails down a few important core pieces of design: proportions, stance, surfacing, and trim detailing.

But like I said, I think getting the car in black might fix that because the black grill would blend in with the black exterior. |
