Exclamation ***HELP*** Exhaust Fluid Light Now Car Won't Start

Can someone please help??

So my exhuast fluid light came on and I didn't refill till like 100 miles left before the no start. The car according to the manual said it will reset after a few minutes of driving. The light didn't reset and now I'm at 0 miles and the car won't start.

I refilled with one bottle of exhuast fluid. Parts rep asked me if I wanted to top up and I said yes.

NEED HELP GETTING THIS CAR STARTED AGAIN!!

You might try posting in the xoutpost.com forum. But I think those diesel X SUVs have a way of filling the active tank, not sure we have a way of filling the active tank directly, but I sure hope we do. I don't see anything in the manual about it.

If it has reached the no-start time, I think you are SOL, not even sure if the BT Scanner tool would allow you to reset that situation.

For those who dont know I hit the zero mile mark and my car did not turn on. I actually got some good info from a lot of people on here and the 2 nozzles by the rear bumper are nozzles for active and passive tanks. I filled the 2 nozzles with a 2.5 gallon jug. I cycled the key about 3 or 4 times and the car turned on.

Im sorry people but I do not know which nozzle represents which tank, Hope this helps

Why did you procrastinate? You get a 1,000 mile warning.

I actually went to bmw and told them I needed exhaust fluid and that I needed to top it up... the idiot gave me 1 kruse bottle which was not enough. I must of filled the passive tank which is no good because the active tank needs to be filled to appropriate levels. I did this at 100 miles left.... in the manual it said it would reset after a few minutes of driving but it didnt. So I started to think I have to take to bmw to reset light so I put it off until it was too late. Won't do that again

I honestly thought this whole thread was some kind of joke. Exhaust Fluid? Is that like Blinker fluid? Then I did a search on youtube and found this
Now I get it.

dude, please don't discourage him, I am curious how hard our cars are to start after running out of fuel, and the OP is someone I consider to be a likely driver to find this out for me at his own inconvenience.

Funny how the world's shittiest car company makes a nice professional infomercial on how the diesel exhaust emissions additive system works to inform the owner of when and how to refill it; and the world's best car company doesn't tell the owner shit and lets him run out of exhaust fluid and have a no-start condition on his vehicle. BMW's typical, "Hey dumb-ass owner, it's German and too hard to understand, just take it to the Dealer".

Thank God the OP's wife wasn't pregnant and needed a lift to the hospital.

Just wanted to point that out to all the fanboyz.

They give you a warning 1000 miles prior to the fluid running out causing the no start. The message is blatantly displayed on the I drive and the cluster. What more do you want BMW to do? Its not BMWs fault the OP waited until 100 miles left. That is just an estimate, just like your "Miles left until empty" for gas.

OP How come you didnt bring it into the dealer? This is covered under your maintenance plan.
