Rim Painting HELP!

Hey guys,

So I have a very quick question that I need help with.

I'm planning on buying some rims and painting them a custom colour, and I was how many pieces the wheel has to be in order to take it apart to paint the barrel.

I know with 3 peice rims I can take them apart to easily paint the barrel, but what about a 2 piece rim?

So just to sum it up, can I take apart a 2 piece wheel to paint the barrel, or does it have to be a 3 piece?

Thanks in advance for the help (hopefully)!

- Rohit

On a two piece wheel the barrel and lip are one piece, so unless you plan on painting the barrel a different color than the lip, it wont make any difference...

Do one piece rims have deep lips though? I thought those were all just face and barrels.

So on a 2 piece rim, the face and barrel are seperate, and on a 3 piece it's the face, lip, and barrel?

from my understanding

2 piece means face/barrell are 2 pieces but they are 'welded' together.

3 piece rims means face, lip, barrell are 3 separate pieces however lip/barrel are welded, and the face can be removed w/ some type of screws....

I could be wrong

that is true for the majority of rims. maya's which are 3 piece are actually 2 piece as 2 of the pieces are welded together.

you have to be careful tho..many paint shops are hesitant to take your rims apart as there is a small chance when they remount the rims, the seal isnt tight like factory and leaks occur. thats what i was told

Would you know of any shops that could paint the face one colour, my lip another, and the barrel a third? lol
