Laser Interceptor quad & Redline install

Finally tackled the reinstall of my LI & escort redline this weekend. Thought I would share the following pictures.

I had trimmed the mounting tabs of the LI heads for my previous 335d and was not impressed with how the install looked, so I used a different method this time around. Instead of screwing the bottom part of the heads in, I trimmed a slot at the bottom of each grille then secured them in with a custom L bracket.

These are the brackets. Dremeled them from the mounting plates shipped with the LI.

rough cut:

painted & attached:

The intent was to get them as straight as possible while also mounting them at the leading edge of the grille. Two original heads were also mounted near the fog lights. This picture is from before I installed the LH grille and secured all of the wiring:

I went through a gap above the radiator to try and keep it as tidy as possible. The following pictures show the LH grille mounted & wire secured along with the view of wires entering the engine compartment.

Wires were then routed into the cabin through this grommet in the firewall. Picture is from before i passed the wires through:

The control module is mounted in the drivers foot well along with all the switches. This picture is a view from the bottom of the accelerator pedal where you can see the LI switch and three other toggles I installed. The switches are all mounted so their forward position is ON and I would pull them back to shut them off. In this image the 4 switches perform the following functions from left to right.

1-toggle) V1 power
2-toggle) Redline power
3-toggle) Main 12V kill to detectors & LI
4-rocker) LI power

Redline mounted with a stickycup. I'm not a big fan of the new versions where the unit is so far away from the windscreen:

Finally I went back and touched up all of the screw heads with black enamel. I still need to swap out the screws in the vertical heads for some security torx which I will probably do tonight. With the screws painted you can barely notice the bottom heads.

Front view after install:

Hey do you have any photos of the rear install?

Looks very nice btw. I am contemplating a quad LI and redline for my E92.

Thanks

I don't have heads on the rear yet, but hope to at some point this year.
