Wheel/Tire Insurance for AWD Models
So I have put in an order for a 2010 328xi. During my negotiation the wheel/tire insurance came up. The first question I asked was if one tire went bad would they replace all tires or at least the tire on the opposite axle? I was under the impression that replacing a tire on an AWD car usually requires replacing either all the tires or at least the tire on the opposite axle. Does this still hold true particularly for the X-Drive models? I guess the tire would have to have quite a bit of wear on them to actually make it an issue when replacing. Also not sure how tight the tolerance they have for the X-Drive system. Anyway according to the sales guy they would only replace the damaged tire. Does that seem right?

It's not sensitive enough to need to replace all 4 tires.
Some on here are running 235/265 staggered setups, which have I think a .8% difference in front and rear rotational diameters, and seem to report no problems. I wanted to take the step further and went with a 235/275 setup, which has an extremely low difference in rotation (lower than the optional 18" staggered setup offered), and is theoretically easier on the transfer case...now if only I could fix the rub on the front inner fender liner...

How long is the insurance for?
The reason I am asking is that I am going to buy a 335XI Coupe next year and want to know if I should get the insurance. Once the tire is worn out I will be changing it to "regular" tires. Oh and I am getting the M-Package so the rims will be staggered. |

The stock runflats suck so bad if I bought a new 335XI (xdrive) with 18" wheels I would just pull the tires off, sell them for what I could get and put on some all-seasons like BMW should have put on in the first place. The Xi handles too loose to need "summer tires" IMO.
In CT the roads are well, snow-belt roads = minefield. I had 3 different bump blisters in the first few months I owned the car from hitting pretty small bumps at 30-40mph that my wife's camry would have laughed at. http://www.runflattireproblem.com/ I'm running 4 Yoko AS now and loving them.
