i changed up my rims last month and now i have a set of the style 230 19inch wheels sitting aroudn at home, i wanted to track at least once this summer and was thinking about just using some new rubber on the old 19inch rims. i know many ppl run 17 and 18inch for the track but would 19 be too harsh?

Wait for the experts to chime in but my $.02...

The 230's are pretty fragile, known to crack pretty regularly. This, combined with the fact you'll want non-RFT might make it a bit of a concern.
That said - I've run my own 230's (square, not staggered setup) at several 'open lapping day' events without issue.

If you're new to the track you probably won't be thrashing them to the point that it's a real concern.

Consider also that the price of tires on 18's (or even 17's as many true track-rats use) will be cheaper.

thanks, ya i was thinking about just selling the 230s but they have a bit of curb damage on them (just cosmetic), was thinking of just getting them touched up and selling them. might do just that.

The 230s usually fetch a good price so your option of fixing up + selling is probably the most logical.

I run my 19" OEM Performance wheels at the track and haven't had any issues. They seem pretty strong. I have non-RFT tires on them as well. I am a big fan of driving my car as-is off the street and onto the track without changing anything, no dedicated track wheels/tires for me yet.

Are you running hanhook V12 tires on the track? If so how are they holding up? The rubber seems soft to me, I have a set but never tracked them.

Do a price comparison of your tire of choice in 17, 18 and 19 fitments. Figure out if you want to spend that money once or twice a year.

I know you said you want to do only one track event but usually it doesn't work that way, once you try it, you're hooked

haha you're right, i'm guessing after the first track session, i'll be finding every excuse to go back anytime i can.

They are a softer compound, yes. Mine have seen four hard track days and about 5,000 highway/city miles. So far, so good, though I think I'll have to replace them by the end of the summer (few more track days). Nothing unusual in terms of wear.
On the track they are great communicators though I find myself wanting a bit more grip. For the price you can't beat them; I got my moneys' worth.
Next time I am going to pony up and go for Michelin PSS. They are supposed to be the next level.

A dedicated set of track wheels (17"/18") would certainly be cheaper though I run my street wheels/tires on the track for reasons I stated above.
