Sort of, the DME will adapt for small vac leaks at normal boost levels by just adding more PWM to the solenoieds, where plenty of vac margin is available.

However, at say 50% greater boost, a 50% greater force is required to pull the wastegates shut against increased exhaust pressure, this is where vac leaks will show up much more and the system may be unable to reach the target (or WG oscillations may occur even giving overboost codes), thus the error codes.

Interesting! Did Darren Woods change the DV's or did BMW do that when they changed the actuators. If they were changed separately, did you feel any difference?

In terms of the actuators then the waste gates are open by default and closed using vacuum. I can understand that a leak in the vacuum system can maybe cause erratic boost behavior, but this would not be dependent on boost pressure. Even on stock map you should feel issues here? Can you remember if the car was throwing 30FF & 3100 errors?

Misfires are a pain and you really need to problem isolate this by pulling codes over a period of time and see if the misfire always happens on the same cylinder. If it doesn't try to swap the coils between two cylinders and see if the misfire moves. It stays on the same cylinder, try to swap two spark plugs and re-test.

Have you had your injectors replaced and have you had any intake cleaning done?
Darren Woods changed the DVs and we took the car for a road test....the boost leak codes were still coming on at full throttle and was getting reduced power warning light.

The code was the 30FF one.

No issues at all on stock map.

All 6 injectors were replaced about 16k miles ago...

no intake cleaning done...

I will be switching coil packs and play around with the spark plugs soon...removing all the screws and covers is a real pain though...

Makes sense. So if this is the case the WG DC should be quite high if this is the problem. Would the DC also be high if there is a leak elsewhere?

Ok so in your case it sounds like bad actuators were the cause. Shame it's a 5-6h job to replace them which pretty much makes it last on the list to try unless you are in warranty. Even to inspect them properly is a DP off job.

Practise makes perfect. I have lost count how many times that cover has been off. I can swap a couple of spark plugs and coils in less than 15 min, but it helps having an electric screwdriver.

Just buy about 5 metres of silicon vacuum hose and cut to size, the BMW items are silly money for the same thing.

Buy a vacuum gauge like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-59075...3325803&sr=8-3

Follow the BMS DIY to test them:
http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16548

Test the reservoirs too.

Hey Guys

Looking at my logs in a little more detail I notice the PWM are eratic and hit the roof at around the time my power curve flattens out. Boost Leak?!

I have changed out my Diverter Valves and tightened all the Charge Pipe connections, Will do some logging later and see how the logs look by comparison...

That car was running 95 octane. More is possible with Super Unleaded.

It is available now!

Thanks for that Phil, what size is the vac tubing? Will see if we have any at work.

thanks
For the lines across the engine you need:
05 Vacuum pipe 1 13717558227 £9.42+VAT
06 Vacuum pipe 1 11657565963 £16.12+VAT

So for £30.65 incl. VAT I wouldn't take any risk by replacing these with silicon hoses. This area get some serious heat from the engine and most of these pipes are hardened plastic with sleeved rubber vacuum hoses. On higher mileage cars these may become frail, but before replacing any then do some pressure tests using a vacuum gauge.

The vacuum hose from top of canisters to solenoids are:
07 VACUUM HOSE BLACK 3,5x1,8 11727545323 £8.48+VAT a meter
These are less likely to have gone unless the ends have been damaged.

If you are going to replace the pressure converters then these are:
04 PRESSURE CONVERTER 2x 11747626350 £70.37+VAT (each and you need 2)

The other hoses to the turbo actuators are #8 (sleeved vacuum hoses), but they will be a right pain to replace. Phil managed to do the front one, but couldn't replace the rear one. So before you go this far do some checks as per Terry's guide.

Phil, how accurate is that gauge?

Sparky68, see my post here for how quick my vacuum where bleeding off when I tested this.

A guy in Luton will do a smoke test on it for £45 which i think might be both easier and quicker. Plus, me being useless with a spanner i would end up with loads of bits left over

Wow, it's barely able to make 6 PSI. It would be interesting to see how a stock map log look?

The left scale doesn't go high enough. At the top how high does the PWM go? With your mods and 15-16 PSI boost your car should be somewhere in the 420-430BHP area. AFAIK increments of 1 PSI is roughly about 10BHP.

The RR graph shows that the run was done in 4th gear (normal), but I seem to remember that you said 4th produced 419. Did you mean 3rd? Pretty sure all my dyno's have been done in 4th.

Pretty good price if they can do the smoke test with 10 PSI pressure. It takes time to hook this up so easy an hours labour.
See comment about weakest joint in step 1a, so you don't think this is the leak.

Yes mate just under 400lb/ft, so you're eyes haven't given up on you just yet.. It has made 390+ on 3 different dynos, so pretty consistant.

Mine is around 15bhp down on Boz's N54 DCT, but he does have DCI and BMWP exhaust over mine. What they give in gains isn't a great deal though I wouldn't think, so still fairly close.

Map 4 is basically a stock map with CAN active which is why its where it is, only starts to crap itself once psi gets to 7 or 8+ .

Yeh he said it takes about 2 hours to do [uses baby oil or something he said]
