This thread is 5 years old. I think he's got it covered by now.

It happened to me this week. The belt shredded and went into the oil pan. Do you think I can save the engine or need a new engine? What happened to yours?

His last post was in 2018.

Is your front crank seal intact? If so, i'd say you're okay. If not and you didn't drive it, i'd say you're fine but you'll need to drop the pan and pull the valve cover and remove all the belt. Even after that i'd probably do a few short interval oil changes just to be sure. If you've driven it... could go either way. If the seal is not intact, you'll need to replace it as well. Requires a special tool and sealant.

That's exactly what I had done on mine, managed to save the engine

Previous owner didn't look after the car, not to mention every single leak possible lol.

I replaced my OFHG and all tensioners/pulleys and belts.

One week later my AC compressor seized and destroyed the new belt.

I was forced to drive it for another 50 miles with a shredded belt and thankfully nothing touched the front main/oil pan.

FWIW i have the original battery in my 08 and it had no issues driving that far on battery power with the climate control and radio turned off.

What fails on the A/C compressor? Is it the internals or the pulley/bearing?

My local indy said a bearing.

A few days earlier(which is why i changed the tensioners and pulleys) something was squeeling quite loud out of nowhere. Changing the pulleys and tensioner seemed to remedy it but the shop said it may have been the compressor bearing failing as well.

I'm still running the original AGM battery from my 07 335i. Its amazing how the computer controlled battery charging has kept the battery performance optimized over all these years. 14 years....

AGM batteries last longer and do not catastrophically fail like some flooded lead-acid batteries sometimes do (ask me how I know...). They are, of course, more expensive, but for something that may last you 10+ years, not a bad investment. Especially considering what a PITA it is to remove the old battery, install/code the new one. Below is what FCP is offering, but you can find AGMs at any of the mainline auto parts stores....

Which 2007 335i came with AGM? Pretty sure my battery is flooded, it's the white case.

Oh and I am still on the original battery. Only 4200 miles on the car tho. Just picked up up 3 months ago. I've been using a charger and conditioner to try to pump some life back into the battery, but I think it's nearly time to just replace it.

Wow, I've put 100k on my E90 and replaced the stock PbA battery twice. I just replaced it again with an AGM, hope this pile lasts another 100k!

I think most/all batteries are made by ~3 main manufacturers so I just got a compatible AGM from Autozone.
