Need to upgrade from 335is clutch?
Hi,
I have currently 335is/550i clutch with OEM DMFW and it occasionally slips on 3rd and higher gears but it does not like 2nd to 3rd gear shift at all and slips when you get back on it at 3rd. I Tried to do some digging so i'd like to know which route to go and if theres something else to think about before replacing clutch that is 4000miles old, is the popular choice still mfactory SMFW and Spec stg3+ clutch? Also while digging i read about CDV delete, maybe i should try that aswell if that helps some with slipping after shift? Can DMFW be related to slipping anyhow? mine didn't "seem" to have excessive play but it gives false knock/missfire at 6000+ rpm at higher gears, so i'm most likely going with SMFW anyway.. I believe many have been "ok" with 335is/550i clutch with much higher power setups than mine so that got me wondering if theres something else to look at than upgraded clutch. I haven't dynoed my car yet but i believe i'm over 500hp, fbo, inlets outlets, stage2 turbos pushing 24-26psi, custom e45 tune. I have bad traction issues with 265 michelin ps4s tires and can only imagine how much worse the clutch slipping becomes after thats solved and theres traction also. Thanks |

Reusing the DMFW can cause slippage. How many miles did the flywheel have before the clutch was installed? Did you do it yourself/can you speak to how the flywheel looks in terms of any glazing or deposits?

It had some heat marks definetely but didn't seem really glazed, also the side to side play was not too bad comparing to video that was here at forums where someone showed how to check for extensive play on dmfw. But i'm no expert and it was my first clutch job so it may have been more worn than i think, or not |
