SONOS
I am on the verge of splashing out £1100 on a sonos set up. Unfortunately I missed the kit which was up for sale on here a few weeks ago, but am now convinced that I need this in my life. The wifey has given her blessing on it which means I don’t have to lie about the price etc.
Anyone got much experience with this gear, I must say that everyone I speak to and everything I read all says it the bollo*ks . I am going for 1x S5, 2X play 3’s, the bridge and I’m going to get the hand unit display controller thing – I know the iphone app is good but I think the dedicated controller will be better |

Im a big fan of the kit - got 3 x zp100's 1 x bridge, 2 x play3's & 2 x controllers (plus apps for iphone & htc!!)
Its great quality and the support from sonos themselves is first class. Save your music in lossless format and it sounds plenty good enough for the majority of ears. Its a doddle to get set up get 1 unit connected to your router and everything else just connects wirelessly Ask away if you have any specific questions |

The only issue I have had with it has been network issues.
The controller is good but not essential. There is not only an iPhone/ipad app but also an android app. The sonos controller can access zone players individually via sonos net whilst app has to access viia central modem/router. You only need the bridge if modem/router will be in a room/zone where music won't be played. Laptops and desktops will also act as controllers. If you are after second hand always worth a look on avforums.com. |

You don't really need the controller if you have an iPhone or iPad, but they do look sexy as.
Matt picked mine up yesterday, though I am not sure when he plans on setting it up but I am sure he'll give you the low down once he has. |

I can only echo the guys comments above.
Sonos is the greatest invention ever ! My wife who is a complete technophobe absolutely loves it. I have a ZP120 with Monitor Audio ceiling speakers in the kitchen and hope to add further zones in the future. I use the iPad and iPhone apps, both work brilliantly (although iPad app is better) I don't think the Sonos controllers are worth it for the price, you might as well just buy a cheap iPod touch. Only other recommendation would be to set up a Napster account. (£5 p/m) which gives you access to pretty much every song in the world with great playlists and music selections. IMO it works fantastically with Sonos. Please let me know how you get on with the Play 3's sound quality compared to the S5 because they do seem exceptional value for money. This has to go down as the best gadget i've ever bought (and gets a thumbs up from wifey too!) Enjoy !!! |

Our house before we moved suited it a lot better. We have three Acram Cubes in different rooms now instead. They work and sound very well but they are no way as adaptable as the Sonos system.
I'd also agree, get the Napster deal at £5 a month as its well worth it. |

I have had Sonos but now use the Squeezbox Touch instead, sounds much better than the Sonos.
I guess it depends on what system you are playing it into? What bits are you thinking of buying? |

So you're buying their player?
In that case the difference in quality is irrelivent. For £1100 I would rather buy a decent system and some airport express's. |

Do you want compact systems? Have you got room for something a little bigger? I ask because you could buy something like this.... http://www.google.co.uk/products/cat...wAQ#ps-sellers This will take an airport express via optical, and they sound nice. £200 for the amp and then maybe £300 for a pair of Quad 11L speakers and you will have a sweet sounding system. However, the Sonos is easier. For me the Sonos is fine for background music, but nothing more. |

I love my Sonos (as many on here do it would seem).
Napster provides good value for money and there is a £50 annual subscription option. The only hiccup I had with Napster was last Christmas/New Year where the service ground to a halt. Spotify on the other hand has been 100% reliable for £10 per month. If it helps any, I have all of my own music library ripped to a Buffalo Linkstation Live and find this compliments the streaming services nicely. It was just a case of plug and play and the Sonos located the Linkstation straight away. You can pick a 1TB Linkstation up for £80 now i think. I've got a 4 zone set up, 3 x ZP120's and a ZP90, plus Monitor Audio speakers throughout and a Sonos Controller (iPhone/iPad works just as well, although the dedicated volume buttons on the Controller provide much better volume control in my opinion) Whatever Sonos system you choose, I'm sure you'll be in for a treat.
