Removing E92 Rear Interior

Hey E9XPost,

Overview
Tomorrow i plan on taking a look at how to remove the backseats on an E92. I was wondering if anyone has attempted this, and if so, how it is done. What i am hoping for is to find a way to unbolt the rear-seats so that it is only a 20-30 minute install/uninstall. I have found some info on removing the actual seat backs on this thread here.

Why?
The obvious answer is weight reduction. The other answers is boredom Im just curious as to how difficult it will be, and also how much weight can be saved if done. I dont track the car or race it, but im curious as to how much weight can be slimmed down by removing the rear-seats that, in effect, are useless.

Ill post up a DIY if i find anything of value, and probably make a nice video. But for now, has anyone done this? If so, can the rear interior be taken out without harming the materials/seats? Im not looking at my interior right now, so i cant plan anything out yet.

Is the weight worth it? Imagine the road noise in the cabin without it.
To each his own but I wouldn't bother, find weight savings elsewhere.

No, its not worth it for weight reduction unless your tracking/racing the car very often. And even then professional driving instructions would be more beneficial. True, road noise would be an issue. If removing the rear-seat backs is 65 lbs alone, then i can only imagine what everything adds up to together. Im really not doing this for the weight-reduction, but more of to see if we can Itll be back to stock/rear-seat-backless by the time im done, i just wanted to see how much these things weigh.

Ill probably end up stopping with the rear-seat backs since removing the seat-bottoms would expose the car to lots of road noise.

I removed my rear seatback - this thread has good info:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=363108
I didn't remove the other pieces because it would look ugly and even altogether they weigh almost nothing compared to the seatback itself.

I'd discourage you from removing the rear seat for several reasons.
A) It makes the cabin a noticeably noisier environment
B) It limits the car's practicality (two seating places, not four)
C) Safety - you will have to find a way to secure items placed in the trunk because nothing is stopping them from sliding forward

I removed my rear seatback primarily because I have fixed race seats which make the rear seat inaccessible, so I ditched the weight. My car is not street driven much anyway. The sole benefit from rear seat removal is the ~45 lbs weight reduction which is unnoticeable on the street and only faintly noticeable on the track.

Wow, thanks for the info Im not terribly worried about B or C, but the road noise is definitely a factor.

BTW, i LOVE your seats! How much did you pay, if you dont mind me asking? Any plans for a cage?

Like I said I would reconsider doing this. You'll change the character of your 335 for the worse.

I'll PM about the seats since it's off topic.
