My Montego Build Thread

I never end up chronicling any of the builds I do, let alone take pictures, and I wanted to change that for this car. I was looking for an e92 for awhile, and I was able to find something that met all my criteria. Talk about specific, I wanted an n54 335 in a manual, with the updated CIC Idrive without the dumbo mirrors. That left 1 year, 2009. I was able to find one the next state over that had everything I wanted (except comfort access) and had the turbos and hpfp done. The only downside, it had some hail damage from a Boston storm. We were able to put it through my friend's bodyshop where he fixed every scratch on the car, wetsanded the whole thing, and added an m3 front bumper with an m-tech rear. The thing looked better than factory. Here she is the day I brought her home

The car came with a Cobb tuner so I loaded a tune the first day, and left it stock for about 3 months.

I ended up cracking one of the stock wheels Thanksgiving weekend thanks to the terrible RI roads, and found a winter set on Craigslist. Since it was winter and I love roof racks, I had to get one for the e92 to carry my snowboard. Luckily, I think they look amazing with it.

A bike shop in my town was having a blowout sale on Thule gear so I was able to pick up everything I needed for less than I could a used set.

Since all the n54 problems were fixed besides the waterpump I knew that was going to get me next. Sure enough, leaving a motorcycle dealer, it crapped out on me.

The one good thing about that day though: This decided to work

You can see the Thule rack as well as the winter wheel set I had.

At this point since I needed to replace the waterpump and was going to be there anyway, I figured why not throw some catless downpipes in at this time. This started the chain reaction.

Need to lower the subframe to get at the waterpump? Throw in Catless downpipes.

My winter wheels are bent? May as well get some new wheels.

New wheels look stupid on stock suspension so I have to lower it.

Front brakes are bad? Well I need to get new pads and rotors. Calipers are ugly, but I think painting stock calipers is kind of cheesy, so I may as well get the BMW Performance brake kit.

Did the suspension, wheels, and brakes all in one night.

And here's how she looked once everything was done

Oh yeah, somewhere along the way I put on 35% tint, LUX angel eyes, and interior LEDs as well.

What's in the box? Shadowline Kidney Grills to match the Shadowline Trim, cant forget about those.

With all the go fast parts now, I needed some protection

Hardwired and mounted up near my rearview mirror.

At this point, the car was really starting to come together

The one thing I didn't like though, the pre LCI tails

I needed an excuse to upgrade, and when I got the brake light bulb out notification, I knew it was time

So much better now! Here how she sits today

Since I had to code the bulb check out for the LCI tails, I got the Carly Iphone app and was able to add some cool features like powerfold mirrors with the key, euro hazard warnings, digital speedo, and a bunch of other stuff.

More to come soon

Nice car man, love the look with the bike rack on the roof. Where did you get those brakes? Are they a direct bolt on?

Thanks man! I got the brakes from a BMW dealer. They're a direct bolt on. Since I have the XI though I had to trim the knuckle a bit. Not a big deal.
