Help! Meth Leak

I just discovered I have a methanol leak with my trunk mounted coolingmist pro tank. I did not have much time this morning before work to diagnose the problem, but I found that the leak is coming from the fitting on the bottom of the tank. When I installed the fitting I used Teflon tape/pipe dope on the threads. Could this tape have disintegrated/melted and is causing the leak? What all did you use on the threads of the fitting that inserts into the tank?

The tank just started leaking and I installed it about 2-2.5 months ago and there were no leaks.

Thanks for the help.

Try teflon paste... I never needed any of that stuff on my old trunk mount setup though.

Thanks. I will give it a try.

So you didn't have to use any teflon tape/paste?

I've drilled a few tanks for the tap and never needed teflon tape or paste. The trick is to select a drill that is on the tight side. I'm not sure I remember correct but think I used a 8.5 mm drill. In case the hole is too large now you can use plenty of teflon tape or paste. But make sure none of this can come loose and clog the system. You may consider to plug the leaking hole and drill a new hole with the correct diameter. The tank joint is a bit weak and dont carry many threads so the hose should be securely fixed so it cannot move and cause a leak.

I've now checked and I used a 8.5 mm drill. This is a bit below the recommended size but makes a very good and strong seal if the hose fitting is screwed directly into the tank without using a thread tap.
