BMS oil catch can baffle
Hey guys,
One of the areas you need to balance when doing catch can design is the internal baffle. It can't be too restrictive or you'll have crankcase pressure problems yet still has to create enough turbulence to allow oil to condense out or you won't catch anything. I know many catch can makers hide their baffles away inside a welded can but on the BMS oil catch can the baffle is right there for you to see. It's even removable. I think they really hit the nail on the head with this new two stage internal baffle. It's a very free flowing design yet still provides excellent oil/vapor separation. Mike |

What size are those hoses? And is there any concern with that 180 degree bend on the outlet?
I agree though, best looking design I've seen so far. Nice job. |

This is what i love about Terry and Mike.. They listen to the people and go and make products for us, and work with us to design and re-design what is needed.
Great work guys! |

Awaiting on this patiently. I'm also interested in seeing pressure tests, which is important for guys running upgraded turbos.

I'm keen to see the test result as well and may buy one if it proves to work well. The price is definitely right for a complete kit. BMS understands the importance of attractive pricing, which is rare for BMW accessories...
The location appears to be service unfriendly but it should be no problem to extend the hoses some except for the increased risk for freezing. There are more than a few frozen crank case vents with engine damages on BMW's with external ventilation piping. So it may be a good idea to keep the hoses short as they are, or insulate the external parts on cars that are used in cold climate. Especially for vehicles that are used for short distance commuting where more and more water is condensed in the oil. Or perhaps I'll wait for the improved version, which will have options for dipstick and/or a switched output for service indication |
