Secondary cat delete??????
Thinking of removing the second cat on my car. The guy at the muffler shop told me he would do it but i might run into trouble with the smog shop. I know some of you are running without the 2nd cat. How did you pass smog check? By the is $250 a reasonable price to remove the cat?

If your state still does the sniff test in the tailpipe there is a slight chance you will fail the physical test and sniff test (although not 100% either way honestly). When I lived in Dallas they were strict on the test and I had to pay $1200 for a new exhaust setup for a truck I had at the time. (catless headers and strait dumped before the end of the cab, which is against TX law)
If they only do the scan of the OBDII, there is a good chance they wont do a physical inspection since you will not fail that test. I dunno dude...You may want to read up on what your state does. |

$250 for e90 sounds outrageous. Also wondering about the smog tests and such, interested in deleting mine as well.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll take djapex's words and will get it done this weekend but not for $250 though lol. By the way, does it really change the exhaust note without the second cat? I'm doing this for the sound.

If I go wheel and meals on Sunday before work, you can hear my set up. And yes low end torque is a bit with my straight pipes. I think it's because my pipes are pretty much 3 inch instead of 2 or 2 1/2 inches
I plan to change this with Apex wheels and AA tune to get better acceleration, car feels heavy right now. |

Best bet if you get physical inspections along with obd testing is to get a flange set up put in place of the cats so you can swap them back and forth yourself. A little more expensive up front but you will end up paying down the line if you have visual inspection to deal with.

That's the hole magnaflo exhaust system from magnaflow so it keeps 2ndary cats and deletes res. if I'm correct he still had 2ndard cats in place

I finally got it done today. 2nd cats are out! the car sounds incredible. When they cut out the mid pipe section (muffler was disconnected), I turned on the car and rev a few times just to witness how a muffler delete sound like. It sounded like a tank. If I had an american muscle car then I would do a muffler delete because it doesn't sound right on a bimmer. Back to the 2nd cats delete. The muffler gargle and pops more now. There is a tad bit of drone around 2K RPM but bearable. However I don't notice any drone when the car is in DS mode. As for loudness, maybe 5% louder. However the exhaust note changed. It has a warm throaty and gargle sound. Overall I'm very satisfied with this mod. Would I recommend this mod? Hell yeah! Here is my setup: afe magnum force intake, secondary cats delete, resonator delete, remus powersound (quad).

Welcome to the club did you delete the resonator as well?
The only thing id have to say worry about is if you delete your primary cats on the headers, expect soot to shoot out and cover your rear end. Sometimes flames may occur if you're driving hard enough and if your car is extremely hot. My case was I pumped a full tank of 110 oct. Lol I highly don't recommend it

Flame? Wow hope i wont run into this problem lol. Cold start sounds so nice. Im planning to have clean mid pipe because mine has 2 welded spots where the cats and resonator used to be at. It just doesnt look clean.

Have it welded by Leo at detail addict, he tig welded my pipes really clean. And ask him about his midpipes with magnaflow muffler. Your jaws will drop if you drive with it.
