Ariel Atom 300

Took a trip to the Ariel factory today with my mate in his 'standard' 245hp Atom. Nice day, enjoyable 1.5 hour drive. Anyway, at the factory, one of the team offers to take me out in the demo car which is the supercharged 300hp machine.

Never experienced anything like it. The standard 245 is stupid quick. This thing was a complete and total assault on all my senses. The noise is incredible and the speed just insane. Something like 3s to 60 but then it just goes and goes and goes.

Massive adrenaline rush. Just had to share!

They are insane aren't they!

I drove one at a track day recently, the torque and lightweight meant that it was a bit of a handful to say the least!

I think the 245 is the best choice..

I had a 160 and a 245, both of which were plenty fast enough. Amazing machines. Would like another 245 one day.

On the way up I thought it was surprisingly comfortable. After the 15 minute run in the demo car, and another 90 minutes on the way home I was ready to get out and get the lid off my head. Pretty warm today.

My mate had the new factory map put on his 245 which takes it up around 10hp but gives it a much better throttle response as well. I could really tell the difference on the way back. The 300 is amazing, but bonkers. The 245 is a superb car. Pretty sure the 160 would be plenty as well! They had one in for sale at 22k.

Was a 300 in for major repairs after leaving the track at 150mph. Front wishbones folded and some stress marks around the welds across the frame but survived pretty well. Those frames are solid.

Couple of phone pics only.

On the way up (passenger eye view)

The 300 which I was taken out in (and buzzed senseless)

A V8.
