FAM|MMK| ModQuench Widebody & Manual Conversion

Updated.....new pics on page #8.

Picked up the car today, just a short list of things to button up, but I have to say I am very pleased with the outcome. Here are a few rollers. I'll add more pics at the end of the thread as well.

Excuse the iPhone pics. Laying out the progress of the latest two projects I have undertaken with ModQuench. Reserving the first post here for final pics of the car.

MANUAL TRANSMISSION CONVERSION:
Done by Foreign Affairs Motorsport in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Bobby Varela and his father and sons run this joint, and many locals know this shop. Their crew does impeccable work, mostly master techs from Porsche & BMW at this spot. In addition to undertaking the transmission conversion, FAM also converted the front end to all OEM M3 body work, air ducts, headlight brackets, etc. They also removed the stock N54 exhaust, and bolted and welded an e92 m3 exhaust that was laying around the shop. I kept my AR catless downpipes, but everything behind those is just stock M3.

CUSTOM REAR WIDEBODY:
Decided to go with all old fashioned metal work in the rear quarters, and had Bob Bauman and his crew at Mad Mods Kustoms in Pompano Beach, Florida do all the rear custom body work. The front end is all OEM m3 bumper, OEM m3 fenders, m3 air ducts, belly ban, etc.

Ok first thing's first, description of the Manual Trans swap. Car went into Foreign Affairs motorsport, and awaited a used tranny that I bought from LKQ corp. The donor transmission only had about 38,000 miles on it.

There was a ton of bad weather on the east coast at the time, so freight delivery took a couple of weeks just for the transmission to arrive over from Oregon. Trans was accidentally delivered to the wrong shop, and LKQ shipped the wrong transmission. I have to say, the customer service was actually very good with LKQ, although they accidentally shipped the wrong transmission initially, they then refunded me a few hundred dollars due to the extended wait and incorrect shipped item. Long story short, the tranny itself only ended up costing $800.00.

There were a ton of parts that went into this project, and I honestly haven't kept a record of everything. I wouldn't suggest trying to replicate this project, as its definitely not financially intelligent to take an auto out of an existing 335i. I had already invested a bit in this car and didn't want to part out my updated CIC navigation, my coil overs, my CSL trunk, etc, etc.

Anyhow, anyone at home thinking about doing it, DON'T. Just sell your car and trade it in for a Manual.

If you're thinking about asking me for a parts list, I don't have one. We went back and forth with a bit of trial and error, and there were a ton of little parts that had to be used here, along with coding of the transmission. Please don't ask or PM me to find out how much this project cost. I'm not interested in discussing all the details of cash and I don't want to reveal a total sum here.

Onto the pics, first phase was actually taking out the tranny and putting in the new one. You can see in the pics here, we had to replace the drive shaft with a manual driveshaft, but we were able to retain the original differential from the automatic.

I bought a set of OSS V2 headlights used from another e90post forum member who was trading in his leased car. A couple of tabs broke on one of the headlights during shipping, and we were able to salvage the light using a headlight tab repair kit from BMW. I had no idea those existed until I looked it up and found a posting about this on e90post.

Also, you can see in the enclosed pics test fitting the OEM M3 front fenders along with an OEM M3 rear bumper. The rear bumper was sitting on the wall at Foreign Affairs Motorsport, and I bought the front bumper from a salvage shop in Miami called German Auto or something or other at 7801 NW 64 ST.

Once the transmission was finished, Mad Mods Kustoms went to work. Here are a few pics of the raw metal work. I decided to do the custom rear quarters rather than buying OEM m3 quarter panels, as it was a lot less expensive and we could finely tune the subtle bubble butt I wanted.

The pic showing the full side shot here is prior to adding 15mm spacers up front. The back initially had 25mm spacers on my 11.00" wide varrstoen wheels, but ended up reducing that to just 20mm spacers for every day drivability.

Below are pics of the body work prior to paint. Keep in mind, front spacers are still not on and the back shows 25mm spacers in these images:

Lol for some reason the car already looks pretty sexy even without a front/rear bumper and a bunch of primer...
