Hi all,

So after seeing a video on youtube of a 5 series with one of these fitted, I'm keen to know if it'd be possible to mount one on my E90 SE bumper?

Take a look at this

Looks great.

What I'd like to know is if anyone has done, or knows if you could mount a UK sized plate, so it sits in the normal position when out, to an E90 SE front bumper?

From what I can see it may be possible but the lower grill would need cutting to accomodate?

It makes no sense to me either. Every car has a plate, you just resign yourself to that fact and its no longer a worry!
I think the cars that have them removed and then stuck on the dash or sun visor look ridiculous, to me it looks like your plate has fallen off and you've just stuck it there temporarily

Some people like a clean front end with no ugly ass plate. But some states/countries require a front plate. Hence for what he wants. Drive around without a plate until you get pulled over then pop it up! What you talking about Police man I do have a plate!

Not worth the bother IMO, all it does is attract more attention from the police and before you know it they'll stitch you up for the most minor thing

This is a UK section though and front and rear plates are mandatory in Europe.

i haven't run a front plate since July 2013. only issue i ever have is in petrol stations that dont know me who dont have Pay at pump.

all the local shells are use to me coming in with no plate now dont say a thing .

had my bumper painted / holes smoothed and been smooth sailing.

i did have a number plate on suction cups for driving into London. but i didnt put it on properly one day and lost it. yet to replace it.
Might go with a magnetic one next time. maybe magnets behind the bumper and on the back of the plate, with a soft cloth like material covering them to avoid scratches.
but im not sure if any road debris will try and stick to the bumper lol

It's not I want to drive around without a plate, I wouldn't and I couldn't (Next door is old bill!)

It's for show use ...and a novelty.

Yes it will work with UK size plate, I know few guy who had it. If it's for the show I would recommend to make removable bracket or use sticky pads and money you saved could be spent on paint stripper to clean your headlights

I'm just wanting to speak with someone who has done it so I can see how they mounted the mechanism as I struggle to see how the mechanism, and plate, will fit in the gap.

& my headlights are standard again now, the flyeyes didn't look good up close!

I saw a guy in an Audi at edition 38 a few weeks ago who had a smaller than standard front plate attached to a backing plate which screwed into his toe eye on the front bumper. I will try and find a picture, it's something I've never seen before

I'm saving for something so getting rid of things that I can do without lol.

I've seen yours & does look good, but I have a source of them virtually identical for less than £50.

Wow fair play. What's the brand ? Often you need to make sure the brand you get has a good mechanism. Last thing you'd want is to find a burnt mechanism due to low quality / budget item and having to replace that at your inconvenience.

I would be all over this too, but the only way forward i see is by cutting the grill in order to fit the mechanism.

I think i'd want to avoid that.

Another consideration. It may look/work great in sunny California, but chances are after a winter here with all that lovely salt on the roads, I can't see it lasting
