Steering noise
I recently made the jump from 17’’ w/ RFT’s to 18’’ w/ Conti DW. Did the install myself using a floor jack, jacking up one corner at a time using the designated jack spots.
Everything seems to be fine and I’m loving the transition. No signs of rubbing or anything to cause concern… EXCEPT my steering now seems to be making a new kind of noise… I thought it may have been the suspension settling back after being jacked up… but the noise isn't coming from the area one would suspect for a suspension problem. 2011 e92 xdrive ~59k miles EDIT: Ok, its definitely not the steering. I do think it's the suspension. I can turn the wheel when the car is stationary and the noise is not present. Can you mess up suspension by jacking up the car? EDIT 2: perhaps the softer ride of the new tires is surfacing a weakness or part that needs to be replaced... maybe bushings. Last edited by nynyny; 04-10-2015 at 06:37 PM.. |

I went through a couple different things, the creaky door killed me, ended up being a combination of the upper strut mounts and the joint on the steering column that connects to the rack

Thanks for the heads up. That'll be the first thing I check when I revisit this.

After i fixed both top mounts i still had a slight click in my wheel and it ended up being this (and this was worst case scenario, was a bitch to get off, and had to get an alignment after it) but just figured id give you best and worst case scenario. The top mounts are a cake walk to swap out. If you wanna swing by and have me do them or if it ends up being the lower joint let me know. |

Finally got this checked out at the dealer and you were correct. Service report states: Checked steering components and found steering shaft bushings bad by the joints. Replaced lower steering shaft and road tested car. They fixed it under CPO. Part # 32-30-6-784-845 |
