touchless car was and rpm jumping ?
I took my car to a touchless car wash , everything was fine and I was at the rinsing stage when the rpm started dropped below 1000 to 800 and then the needle started umping between 1100 and 800. Once I left the car wash everything seemed fine...
Any ideas what could ve triggered this? The car goes to under wash at the beginning when entering the wash station so I could see the rpm jumping there , but after it is odd |

Hope it wasn't trying to ingest water! Maybe inspect the air filter.

That could very well be the case too. I am sure the MAF sensor and ECU is being nicely tripped up with this.

The jumping rpm went away right after I left the car wash. Drove the car for 20 minutes after and it never came back.
Isn't the air filter under the hoodand in a sealed box. It would be hard for it to absorb water if it is spraying outside the car. I hope it never comes back. I'm afraid of car washes now Last edited by rick100; 03-04-2016 at 06:43 PM.. |

So I took the car out for a drive again and the rpm is fine. I opened the hood and there is not sign of water anywhere. Air filter looks tight
The vapors from all the water is a possibility I also found that there is a "vent" or holes on the panel beside the left tire , I m guessing those holes are meant for air circulation. Right beside the hole is a connector that I believe is attach to the air filter so it could be a sensor. I m wondering if water got in those holes and somehow to the connector or wires which made the car's rpm hesitate while it was inside the wash bay. The way the bay sprays the water I could see that happening. |
