2008 328i issues
Just this last week my 328i began to give me a check engine light about a half hour after I began driving. It would happen randomly and the light would go away after I turned the car off. I would accelerate and between 2k and 3k rpm, the transmission would begin to feel heavy and it would downshift randomly and the car would begin to shake. I would stop on the side of the road and turn the car off and everything would reset and it would no longer shake. I am beyond confused and need some help before I go to my BMW dealer.
thanks |

If you can scan it do it but at first guess you could be looking at a faulty Valvetronic Eccentric Shaft Sensor, Vanos solenoids or ignition coil(s).
But plz scan your car and post your codes as the possibilities are endless and we are not magicians. |

There's bound to be a stored fault. If it's a misfire on a specific cylinder, then move the coil from that cylinder to another cylinder and see if the fault follows it.

My n52 shakes pretty aggressively at idle and after WOT it would throw check engine and shake terribly u Gil restart car than would go away. Changed plugs & all 6 coils and was good to go. Good luck op and let us know what the dealer says or the codes.

Thank god someone has the same issue. I'm going to do some more research on the coils and plugs and then have the dealer take a look at it before I do anything.

A $45 OBD2 code reader would have saved you a lot of headache and not wasted a bunch of time.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Also, the dongle works with other apps (torque, obd fusion, etc) so you can use in other vehicles as well. |

There are lots of sources for code readers. I was pointing out that when the car has a SES light, the easiest and most convenient device is a simple OBD2 code reader which can be kept in the glove box. If the OP isn't into coding or actually diagnosing and DIY, an OBD2 code reader is an inexpensive device to use on any car.

I agree with above comments on getting the codes read, then you know what you are up against. Also, just had a similar issue on a 2009 328i that showed a misfire so my first step was to swap coils to see if the problem moved... luckily I checked the plugs when I did this and they were fouled and gap wasn't correct so I replaced them and no problems since. If your swapping coils take a peak at your plug, only takes an extra minute or two
