RFT
I kind of dislike the ride and always have somthing bad to say about them, but they did save me a huge headach today , came out of my house and had a flat tire, drove down to the repair shop and got it plugged any other tire but the RFT would have got me on my hands and nee's. F*** the ride this things will save you a day a rim and a headach . FOR SURE.

Yeah, it happened to me on a Saturday though. Made it to the stealer and had to leave it all weekend so they could get to replacing the tire on a Monday. The RFT's save weight and that is something that i like getting rid of (Till i can afford an Elise).
Damn the ride and the noise. It's all or nothing as far as performance is concerned. |

the ride quality and noise are subjective. I don't think they are bad at all. My only gripe is the expense of replacing these tires. But I can't complain or I shouldn't have bought an E90

I don't know guys.. I have been reading all the pros and cons for 24 months.. had the RFT taken off yesterday.. 25k mls.. did not look that bad.. rode hard but wore well.. The ride and handling with the new Michelins is far superior to the RFT.. now I have to find the jack kit and dummy wheel.. Everywhere I have checked they are back ordered!!! Hmmmm....

For me personally, I prefer to deal with runflats and avoid the hassle of a donut spare and jack kit or semi reliable tire repair kit which won't work if you have a true blowout (which I've experienced only once in all the days I've been driving). That said, if BMW offered an option of non RFTs with a spare tire instead, I would take that in a heart beat.

I never liked the RFT's from day one. I have 16k on mine they just get louder and the feel of the ride gets crappier. My next set of tires will be non rft. BMW should have made a no cost option. RFT's with spare delete or regular tires with a spare..

I never liked idea of RFT on the performance coupe.
It always feels like tire is going to rip off from the rims when I take hard turns. |

I am wondering the same thing, I've gone to Tirerack and narrowed it down to 4 choices: Pirelli PZero Nero M&S, Michelin Pilot Spot A/S Plus, Good Year Eagle F1 All Season, Yokohama Advan S4. Anyone have any recommendations? I am leaning towards the Eagle F1's b/c they are the cheapest yet still a great tire according to reviews.

it all depends on how you drive and what type of pavement do you regularly drive...i'm in a relatively nicely paved area (San Diego), and currently have 29K miles and the tread still look relatively good...probably will last another few K's.

I personally don't have a problem with RFT either. And I really don't understand the hatred towards them. Granted, I am not the biggest of car buffs, but I do love cars, especially this one. Maybe I just don't get the whole deal about why non-RFT are superior to RFT. Even my wife prefers the ride of the RFT over my non-RFT winter tires. And we have notoriously bad roads here in Michigan. Yes, the price of them is extreme, but we're also driving $50k cars. As previously mentioned, if it means sparing me from changing a tire on the side of a freeway or bad part of town in 20 degree weather, sign me up.

Tire warranty? Otherwise, I'm just stating that I don't understand the hatred toward RFT based on ride comfort or noise or any other subjective factor. Personally, I would take RFT over non-RFT any day. One week after I took delivery of my E92, I left work and started my car to the "dong" of the TPMS. If it weren't for the RFT that allowed me to drive to the dealer 30 miles away, I would've been stuck changing a tire in Detroit (not the safest of areas). Sure, I had to bend over, lube up, and shell out $400 for a new tire because I didn't buy the tire warranty. Shit happens, chalk it up to a loss. But to each his own...
