Fair enough. We've all done stuff like that at one time or another.

For a start, it was NEVER posted on YouTube (media for you) but was on a private hosting site with the link posted to one forum. But no it wasn't big, wasn't clever and i'm not pround of it. Just one of those stupid moments we all have in our lifes..
Fair enough - guess you won't be doing that again then? Unlucky to get fingered though.

Mate, i dont think we know each other, although im damn sure we will have some potential mutual acquaintances as Lincoln is such a small place, i was born in Lincoln and lived there til i left to go to law school, hate the place to be honest, but it still amazes me that they havent put speed cameras on the bypass, especially the dual carriageway section to/from Newark, such a quick bit of road, dangerous but very quick!!! But i respect the fact you have replied on here. Seems you were a little unlucky to be honest that some little shit has grassed you up. We have all done things on the road that are outside the Road Traffic Act - i transgress on a daily basis - well everytime i get into my cars if im honest!! Anyway, i will look out for your white Golf next time im up in Yellow Belly country!! Good luck with the ban - ive served two bans for speeding over the years and both of them seemed like an eternity!!

(off topic) I was born and bred in Lincoln too. I moved away 20 years ago but I love the place and go back when I can. Why do you hate it Steve?

Typical small town mentality on the whole - full of little dick heads who think they can fight but cant - everytime i go out with old friends who still live there we end up getting into some kind of fracas with a bunch of numptys who cant handle their drink. The city (its a town bar the cathedral!!) is still quite beautiful in places, esp the bailgate etc but its the people that still live there that spoil the place. I used to lecture ILEX and International Law when the Uni first opened and saw the writing on the wall during most of my lectures!! I think the Uni has been both good and bad for Lincoln. I for one do not miss the place at all and thats a shame considering its my birth town - but equally i only have a few friends still there, most people leave and never go back.

I actually read about this a couple of days ago, but had no idea that a forum member was involved.

Two things stand out to me:

1. A lot of people seem to forget that forums like this are not private or anonymous. Everyone can read our posts and it's quite possible that things we say will come back to haunt us.

2. The police and government have stated before that they want to change the public perception of speeding so that it is considered as anti-social as drink driving. Some of the statements around this case suggest that they are achieving their goal. Although 130mph (if that was actually the speed that was admitted to) is excessive and illegal it's not in itself dangerous. Ten or so years ago 120mph on a deserted motorway was pretty normal and if you got caught a ban was extremely unlikely.

I accept that we have a lot more cars on the road, but the concentration on speed is totally misplaced in my view. The biggest dangers on the road come from drivers using inappropriate speed, driving without courtesy and without due attention to hazards.

Vtec-Abuser, do you know how they would have been able to successfully prosecute had you not admitted the offence?

We've all done it as well.

Depends more on the location and circumstance than drivers skill.

My mum would be perfectly safe driving at 130mph on a straight stretch of deserted motorway.

Indeed!!
I would ahve thought they could work out an estimated speed based on how quick he was from 2 points of reference on the video (between lampsots or bridges or something)? I know they cant prosecute on that but would suely have strengthened the case they had for him street racing, maybe he was trying to make things easier on himself coperating

Sorry to read about your misfortune VTec Abuser.

Still cant understand how you can be done for a video clip that does not even show it being your car or you driving. ????????

Just seen this. I wasn't aware of this story.
I drive that stretch of the A46 every day. It's got a reputation for racing though. There's a couple of Skylines, RS's and Sti's that ive seen regularly on that road after rush hour.

Didn't realise there were so many Lincoln peeps on here.
I still love the city. Sure, there are a few inbred idgits, but i've seen far worse in other much bigger citys!
