camera detector

hello people,

Wondering if someone could help me, I am collecting the car tomoro and I can not live without camera warnings.... I've used the search, but haven't found clear answers.

- Is there a camera detector that will receive good reception and will still work in or around the ashtray? even without a extra receiver cable (as I do not want to mount the camera detector on the windscreen or the dash!).

thanks in advance

ive heard good things about the road angel, but what im trying to find out is whether it works without any problems from the ashtray instead of mounting on the dash or windscreen

I doubt it as they need a GPS signal, you might stand half a change if you have a sunroof.

Micro road pilot has a sep GPS antenna you can mount on the dash - it is also very small. Take a look.

yeah i love the fact that the micro road pilots are neat and small, if i was to place it inside the ashtray, where would I need to place the external antenna without wires trailing across anything?

i run the Pogo Alert in my car , its a quality bit of kit that really works ! Also it is very compact so may fit where you want it?! Oh and dont get a road angel as they are very annoying, ive had one and it came close to being thrown out of the window on numerous occasions !!

the best advice i could give you is have what ever you get properly installed (ie hardwired in) , becasue the time you get caught will be the time you forgot to plug a loose on into the cigarette lighter

Cant comment on the Pogo, but the only way you will get something that doesnt have line of sight of sky working well is if it has a sep gps antenna (a la micro roadpilot).

You can run this neatly under the dash/steering column and up past the fuse box without much trouble.

Pogo alert, quite simply, the best! mount it on the rhs but you cannot hardwire it in without breaking into the sealed cabling. What I have done is get the extension radar detector lead and I have extended the power cable by about a 1m and I plug it into the centre armrest. I got a 1 into 2 power lead off ebay as I have a DAB in the armrest as well and it all fits into the hole for drinks.

It's a doddle all you have to do is run the wire round the edge of the windscreen for the radar receiver and the cable for the power goes down the side, remove three star screws and tuck it behind, replace screws then run the cable underneath the centre console and under the lid. yes I leave it on even tho it's easily removed if need be. In that posistion it isn't too obvious either.

My mechanic (in the finals of MOTY) didn't want to break into the sealed circuit of a car still in warranty just in case BMW used it as a way of wriggling out of any future claim

My tomtom works from the ash tray so I dont see why a radar detector wont.

I'll see if I can find a lead to plug my roadangel in and give it a go. Oh and as for recommendations, I love Road Angels had one in my car since they first came out. Brilliant bit of kit and has never let me down. Just remember to update them or buy one of the connected ones

It will work from the ashtray if your happy having a cable all over the dash, I prefer cables/power leads to be neat and tidy and hidden away.

It also leaves that power outlet for something temporary to be plugged in when needed
