No it didn't include the labor cost. He quoted me $3500+labor+tax, but i just got off the phone with them and they said the site is right so i will be charged 2995+labor+tax. wooot! 500 bucks back in my pocket! Now i need to resolve why the site only says manuels, but i have an auto. The representative on the phone said he will double check and call me right back.

Okay.. here is the latest update... i will NOT be getting the Dinan(Quaife) LSD installed on 06/05/09. The reason is because the site is right and it is only for manuels and not for autos. I got all excited thinking i will have an LSD on my 335i this friday since they called me telling me to come in to have it installed. O well, i guess that means i save $3,000+. IMao!
Anyone know if quaife directly offers an LSD for the auto 335i or is it only for manuels like Dinan? I would have been very mad if i drove 1 hour and 30 min to Morgan Hill to Dinan Headquarters and finding out it can't be installed on my auto 335i. Good thing i double checked! I think people at Dinan needs to have better communication!!!! |

Also mentions free shipping right now and $200 discount. I would check with Harold. It's a direct swap, so you just add fluid and your good to go. He may know a shop in your area that's already done it. The one on their site it not a direct swap so it is listed as less but would probably require much more labor to do: http://www.hpashop.com/product.sc?pr...categoryId=114 |

I remember when the HP pumpkin was almost $5k lol... but maybe that wasn't a swap? If I can get Dinan for $3k (which has the Quaife LSD I want) then I wouldn't pay $3k for anyone else. Isn't the actual Quaife LSD like $1700? seems like with a pumpkin swap we should be able to get somebody to do it for way less than $3k?
I would like to get the AT final drive ratio though for my MT |

No one is giving core credits on welded diffs. I will have to call Dinan and see whats up. If the dealer needs to the install of the LSD and do the pumpkin swap, then your at 4+ hours of labor at about $100 an hour. You might as well get the HP one and install it in the driveway yourself.

(and i'd be surprised if dinan gave core credit for a welded diff..... that'd be a miracle for all you welded guys out there... (i was welded too, but long ago i bought a low mileage bolted one off ebay.... let it sit around a year or so .. till i finally had the $$ for the quaife..)) |

The cost should be around $1450 plus install. That's what it cost me.

So, Dinan calls you with an "offer" to come in a get a diff installed, schedules an appointment, then later cancels because the product isn't for your application? What a clusterfuck. If you want this thing call HP.

So I just talked to Scott at Dinan and he told me the $3k price includes the final drive unit. He said "it's the full pumpkin" and they accept welded diffs for the core charge. Apparently they send them back to Quaife and they somehow reuse them. So you pay $4200 and when you send them back the stock diff they refund you $1200! Not too shabby...

I tend to agree on the "you could buy an M3 for that money now" argument. I have blown about $8k on my Stage 3 mods including labor which isn't too bad. I have definitely looked at how much more it would have costed me to get an E92 M3(new). I am still about $12,000 off actually. Then again it depends on how much you paid new as well but BMW doesn't discount that much.
The LSD is a great idea but for $3k I am up to $11k in mods from Dinan not counting wheels/tires and downpipes. After all is said and done maybe I should have bought an M3? I guess the M3 doesn't have our torque but they handle great right out of the showroom.

vegasspeed - if you want to close the handling gap between 335 and the M3, you can always get a bunch of the M3 parts put on to the 335. Check out my signature for the goodies I put on. I also did a little write up in the past on all my goodies.
The research was done by a few talented folks on the site (including Harold at HP Autowerks).
