I think one on a all black grille would look good but no others. I find a badge on the grille a nice touch. Doesn't matter if some don't like it, thats the point of life! Were all different

Exactly, 330i debadged, and now the 335i debadged. Those that know will know anyway, and those that don't know are irelevant anyway as far as this subject goes. AND its much easier to clean the boot, no finicky plastic numbers to get full of dirt and wax. TBH you'd be better of putting a 318d badge on, much more subtle, I've seen an E60 M5 with a 520d badge on, really made me chuckle. |

Chin ups are very silly. They make your arms big, but look at popeye. far more relaxing to eat spinach instead. I would rather have m badge tatoos on my arms than do chinups. Miss him? Miss who? Mega agree with most of yer points. I prefer the 330i se with sports package, which cost me about 33% less second hand than the equiv 330d msport. Pretty much the same car without the m badges or body kit. Better drive imho. Im still a grand up in terms of running costs after 20k miles. You could say mine was also an informed decision. I was actually considering a 320d msport vs 330i, which were about the same price at the time, but went for the 3 litre petrol as im still a few hundred quid up 20,000 miles on. There are so many 320ds about so that tends to knock the residuals down a bit. Cost of ownership on 3-4 year olds with 20-40k on the clock is remarkably similar over 1-2 years. 330i se with sport package = bargain of the century if you can sacrifice the exterior aesthetics. |

Right then, time to rant. If anyone sticks an 'M' badge on their non 'M' bmw (be it an Se, Sport, Msport, ES, Highline, whatever) then it says a lot about their owner. The fact that they even thought, hmm, I know, I'll pretend my car is something else (and lets face it they usually debadge as well) means they must be either some or all of these - shallow, low self esteem, nob ends, gormless etc.
I mean why? Do VW owners go round putting 'R' badges on, Do Audi drivers stick RS badges on? Hardly at all, but BMW drivers who do it bring other BMW drivers into disrepute. The one time i had a M3, it made me even more mad. And it seems it afflicts 5 series driver more than others. 520d's owners - you know who are. Looking more stupid as you get blown into the weeds by most hot hatches with your single exhaust pipe bellowing smoke... In fact, lets start a name and shame sticky? Lets stick pics up of the pretenders I say. |

How about going for a crome number plate surround, and crome wheel arches?.... that's how cool adding a mis-placed M-badge looks!
IMO it's the sort of thing that's done by people who can't really afford the car, and just do whatever they can to dress it up further.

Driving up the toll road on Friday afternoon and went past a ///M 320i (that's right, the M badge right next to the 320)
Had a quiet chuckle to myself; my boss was in the car with me, I didn't want to come across as a geek |

You asked for an opinion so right or wrong here is mine!
I think if you have a performance part installed and it has an M on it, keep it. I've owned M contour wheels on my old E36 and gladly rocked the m's that were installed on them... they also gave me significant performance. Same car came with a tri-color stitch M- steering wheel and shifter from the factory. I didn't bother removing them... they were part of a package and served a purpose. Sport wheel, shorter throw etc. NOW on the other hand if you're thinking of going out of your way to M out your car on every panel and item when you've got a bunch of aftermarket stuff on it... Yup, that's kinda cheez IMHO. Save your money for a performance enhancement you can FEEL! An oldschool BMW tech once told me an M car is 3 things Power: Engine, Control: Suspension/Brakes, Dynamics: Seats, Steering,Shifter... The rest of it was styling you could do without: Body kits and badges. To put this in context, he was talking E36 US spec. M3 at the time... which in his opinion was not an M3, just a shell of one because the engine did not have a real M-Power manifold. Spend your money on performance not flash. You'll know the difference. Hope this helps you decide.
