For the fuel pump?
No. seems ok at the mo, i'm too busy to go in. It only cranks more when a bit warm, a few hours after a good hoon. Stone cold, it starts on the button. |

I haven't had the chance to really test the Vmax as I don't have the right Autobahn nearby (i.e. no speed limit, three lanes, no inclines, little traffic), most of those I drive on are unfortunately two lanes and in hilly terrain, rather twisting and with some traffic. I went up to 305 km/h on the speedo twice, but there's room for more as I ran out of straight road at that point. Pursuant to the dyno I went on after getting the GIAC stage 2, I currently have 433hp and 677 Nm (crank). Once the methanol injection works properly, it should be around 450hp I guess, as the DME pulls timing in the upper rev range due to high IATs. We'll see! Alpina_B3_Lux

What's really cool is that due to the huge torque you get almost instant acceleration at any particular rev number, which is - for me - the biggest advantage in daily driving. With a natural aspirated car you can be just as quick, but not in the same gear. And although it's got loads of torque the engine does not suffer of the limited rev band of a diesel (such as the 335d) or the torque spikes that go along with these engines. The M3 still is a fantastic engine, though! Alpina_B3_Lux

Excellent write-up, a lot of great insight there and good writing skill.
Personally I feel no inclination to go for an Mtree for the "M3 factor". Interests me very little. A modded 335i for me very soon, I'd love to muller an M3 at the traffic lights or a drag race. It's all about being the quickest Love your choice of E90 M3 as you know. |

Firstly I would like to say that this is a really good write up in particular the direct comparison between the two models based on personal experience.
Secondly before I get shot down in flames, yes the M3 is an awesome machine, however for me the price of an M3 is not justified. If you consider the performance and economy of a 335i I'm sure forum members would universally agree there isn't anything that comes close. A car that will sprint to 60 in 5.5, with 306 bhp and which if driven sensibly, can produce 35mpg on a run or 25mpg around town. The servicing costs of a 335i are also substantially less. Then there is the VEL which considering the power, is in band J which is remarkable. If I were to spend £53k on a motor, personally I would look at a used Aston V8 or a Nissan GTR. In my view these are far more striking vehicles with performance to match. http://www.nissanusedcars.co.uk/richexperience# https://used.astonmartin.com/en-GB/S...rice&Order=Asc As I say, I am in no way knocking the M3 but faced with a decision of an Aston or an M3, having driven an Aston on a number of occasions, to me it's a no brainer. Its got to be an Aston Martin. This isn't based on jealousy but more what you get for your money. In my view the 335i represents value for money whereas the M3 doesn't. Please be gentle M3 owners it's only my opinion!

You can't compare buying a brand new car to a used car.....for the price of a new loaded 335i you could get a 2 year old 911 for example As for the Aston Martin V8 - i agree that it is a beautiful car but it isn't as practical as an M3, it can't carry 4 (or even 5) in comfort and performs no better in acceleration or track times - it also costs new around 90K for a decent spec.......the price of a new M3 and a new 335i! The fact that the M3 can compete with these types of cars in performance terms as well as being a more practical every day car shows how complete it is. Of course the Aston looks much better and has that badge but apart from that the M3 holds its own ......IMO i would say for the performance on offer and the everyday useability the M3 is a bit of a bargain - just my opinion By the way - the link to the Aston you posted is for the 380bhp version - the comparison below is with the AMV8 420bhp version.....and the M3 does quite well. Aston does look nicer though if thats your main priority. http://www.fastestlaps.com/compariso...3_E92_DKG.html Lets not turn this into a 335i v m3 thread, that was not the point at all - i have owned both cars and was just sharing my opinions of both. Remember the next M3 will be a turbocharged unit, so more akin to a tuned 335i drive nowadays, but with the added M3 special factor, be interesting to see how they keep the M sparkle though?
The current M3 is the last of the NA era, the M5/M6 V10 is no more (out of production for good) and the M3 V8 will be next for the chop. Savour it while you can. Give it a couple of years, I might buy an E90 V8 as a weekend car and keep it for good |

I'm sure BMW don't really care as long as they sell more cars, which i'm sure they will on the back of M Divs long standing reputation in the motor industry. I am also interested to see how they can make these new breed of engines have the same magic and 'specialness' as the current NA engines and previous incarnations like the screaming six from the E46 CSL, probably my favourite TBH. I think the M Divs reluctance to go head to head with the likes of AMG in the power stakes has always endeared them to enthusiasts, the ability to get more from less and the idea that the complete car is more important than the ultimate headline figures has won them fans all over the world. I await with interest the next gen of M cars and am still hopefull that the new M5 and M3 will still have that 'magic' as opposed to just becoming another fast car. I will be selling mine next year, it will have less than 6k on the clock - will give you a good deal if youre interested !!

A great car that is holding on to its value very well but i can only imagine the life most of them have led over the 7 years or so since the first ones were released - i could still be tempted though
