BMW connected app (for 6NR) now on app store

Just noticed the connected drive app has been on the app store since 10 december. This is for 3/2011 builds with option "6NR" apps.

Maybe a bit early to be asking this but any idea if a retrofit will be available for option code "6NR" (for post-September 2010 builds)? Is "6NR" software or additional hardware?

Hard to say. Seems like the combox should have this covered. The app accepts data from the mileage computer and has internet radio stations. Thats all for now but surely more to come

Btw the internet radio portion wotks very well. Pretty good SQ

Appears to also have room for future vehicle diagnostics

I also hope it can be retrofitted for post Sep '10 build. I ordered a new vehicle in Dec which comes in, in about a week and was under the assumption that since the vehicles post Sep were shipping with the new combox I would be good.

However, I was just forwarded the official PDF announcement from BMW this morning about the new ConnectedDrive and iPod Out features and the very last line of the announcement states.

"Note: It will not be possible to retrofit 6NR on vehicles produced prior to 3/11 (4/11 for X models)."

I'm really hoping that's not the case

.

I'll post up the PDF a little later today when I get home.

That is sad if no retrofit is made available by BMW. Running changes are always heartbreakers but seems this one should have been retrofitable or at least better coordinated with the combox introduction.

If nothing else perhaps a company like BimmerRetrofit will offer an upgrade path to give combox USB iPod integrated cars access to the BMW app goodness?
