I think it goes without saying that you should remove it.

They will most likely hook it up to ISTA, their diagnostics system. It can detect the tune attached to the car and flag your VIN in the system.

They will normally do this if the car is coming in for any type of service to check for any errors/problems that may not trigger warning lights on the dash.

Remove the tune for dealership visits.

Might be ok, but you could be risking voiding the warranty on the engine/drivetrain if their system does detect it.

All in all, it's your call.

i dont think theres any way for their system to detect it, my concern was more if they opened the ecu and saw the tune itself. thats why i want to know if they have the right to look in there if the car is there for something entirely different. im not trying to get in an argument im just curious

Not trying to argue about it. =) Just letting you know what just about any member on the board with a tune will tell you. Taking it in for warranty work, it's better to be on the safe side and remove the tune.

If they see it, or their system detects it (and ISTA is actually quite a sophisticated piece of software) your flagged in the dealer's system and could run into warranty problems later down the road.

Will they go poking in the ECU box? Most likely not.

Technically, they can do whatever the hell diagnostics they want. They don't know you're trying to hide a tune from them, so if some other issue pops up that requires them to go into your ecu what are you going to say? "OMG YOU WERENT SUPPOSED TO GO IN THERE OOPS " Maybe you should warn them before you drop your car off. "Please don't go into my ecu bay, I'm not hiding anything I promise."

Leave it in if you want. If they find it on the off chance they DO go in there, don't cry if your warranty is voided.

Good to hear. For someone who clearly stated that they are concerned about their warrenty, I'm surprised you're so lackluster about the tune. You said this a few days ago:

At least they didn't find it.

sounds about right. why would a tech waste thier time going into your ecu for a wheel alignment? makes no sense and they dont get paid for that.

if you go into the dealer for warranty work related to the engine then yes it would be best to remove.

thats how i felt. and as long as the tune is on map 0 and the codes are cleared i think its pretty safe. im not saying by any means that they wont find it but its unlikely that they'd look in their for a wheel alignment.

Why the hell do you ask a question and then argue with the people giving you advice? Especially when all the posters are telling you the same thing.

I've got a suggestion different from all the posters.

Leave the tune in, then come back here and while about your lost warranty.

Hopefully you'll actually mature to the point where you'll learn how to deal with differing opinions.

i didnt argue with anyone? i was just saying it didnt seem likely that they would look in the ecu if they were doing a wheel alignment. i never said it was impossible though so i dont know why your freaking out.
