Proud owner of a 320si

After a few years of absence from this forum, I thought I would reintroduce myself having just put down the deposit on my new car, a 2006 BMW 320si!

Having looked at some videos on YouTube im really excited about taking delivery. Has anyone got any tips on what to watch out with them for or any information about true running costs?

Thanks guys! It's good to be back.

Mike

Why not? It's an available option across the pond in Scotland where the individual is from. Cars are generally more expensive to buy and run over there.

Truth be told I wanted something a bit different. I've heard really good things about the characteristics of them and decided to take the plunge since my GTI was getting a bit old. I'm aware it's not the quickest 3 series to grace the roads by a fairly big margin, but I'm a sucker for that carbon fibre cylinder head under the bonnet!

Most BMW owners in the US don't realize that our options are actually quite limited when it comes to european car models (and cars in general vs the bevy of interchangeable options elsewhere).

Awesome car! I wish we had this car released in the states back then. It's a very special E90, I'm sure you know. From the Wikipedia article:

It is a limited (2600 units) version of 3 Series saloon built to qualify the homologation requirement for the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).[36] The 320si uses a modified 4-cylinder engine (N45) different from the standard 320i (N46). Modifications include an increased redline to 7.300 rpm, a shortened stroke (by 2 mm), an increased bore (by 1 mm) and a higher compression ratio (11,0:1). The engine is mostly hand-built and does not have Valvetronic, decreasing the number of moving parts.

Congrats and hope to see some pics.

Wow the 320si seems pretty awesome, a lot more special than the average 30/35i sport. Congrats, you should hold on to her since they're so rare and keep it OEM.

Nice pickup!! Can't wait to see pictures.

OP, PLEASE put an M3 cowl on that car. What a shame to cover 1/4 of that sexy engine with a clunky, intrusive cowl. Here's a DIY of sorts:

That engine bay is glorious. I think it's even cooler that the 320si was mostly a hand-built engine, and with so few ever made, I think you got yourself a damn nice ride OP.

Sorry, didn't intend to step in like that. Was just offering my theories.

I just geeked out reading that article. The numbers on paper would put some people off from it, but the details there are just really cool! I bet that motor is just a real hoot to wind out while driving spiritedly.
