Had mine back after being away last week, its had a software upgrade but is still the same. (hesitation at low revs) Barons have 3 or 4 other 320is with the same problem and are awaiting for a cure from BMW! Yeah right! Not sure what to do now, they say they will call me as soon as they hear from BMW.

I've done a search and only found 1 instance of 318i having this problem - so is it just the 320i's? I'm considering buying a 318i SE and just curious...and also...if the 318 and 320 engines are exactly the same, can't the 318 be tuned to the 320's 167BHP?

Thanks for your help,
Jon

Best ask them, if this "fix" is supposed to be coming....why have BMW agreed to replace other customer's cars....??

Had a call from Barons and the car is booked in for a camshaft sensor on Friday. Don't think I will hold my breath!

Thanks chrisbin, I will bear that in mind when this fails to work.....

I've just had a recall notice on mine (Apr 08 build e92 320i) to "replace camshaft sensor" which is suceptible to moisture ingress. Mine has performed faultlessly thus far - no doubt this recall will bring about all the problems.....

That is the 'recall' I have just had done on mine, to try and stop the hesitation at low revs under load. It has not cured the problem!

I've had no problems with mine so I'm inclined not to bother.

news from belgium: official recall camshaft sensor.

also talked to the engineers at bmw and for hesitation at low revs they are going to increase the revs in the software when the car is at stand stil while engine turning. When the dynamo or airco starts running when standing still it could cause a slight drop in revs and resulting in hesitation at low revs

Our car is in the bmw dealership for the sensor now.

Interesting as I always thought the tickover was very low but was told that this was designed in to help the low emmissions.....

Mine now seems to tick over at about 750 as opposed to 600 prior to the camshaft sensor recall.

Since the engine light came on a couple of weeks back, I haven't had chance to get it in to Stealers, but did do one thing - changed where I buy my petrol.

I've been going to Asda for some time when I do the shopping. for the past few fills, I've gone to premium sellers such as BP & Esso. The main point here, is that so far, since doing this, I've not experienced any perceivable power issues. I'm going to continue doing this for another month to see if it is literally the type fuel that I'm using...

regards
Bren

Sorry, you've lost me.

Mine's going in this afternoon for the recall but, as I have had no problems, I'm worried they may introduce some. The chap at the stealers insisted it had to be done.

Well, let us know how you get on. I'm not taking mine in until Nov 11th.

Done yesterday, while-you-wait. Car seems no different but there was nothing wrong with it anyway.

No difference here either apart from a slightly faster tickover. Not sure why they thought it would fix the hesitation. Spoke to CS who bounced me back to the dealer so they can contact 'technical'.

My tickover speed was and still is about 800. What was the build-date of your car, FW?

My tick over has never been up at 800. It was 600 when I first bought it, and is up a bit now, after the camshaft sensor.
