USB on iPhone 3g not working on my car

hey guys just got my iphone and the USB isn't working with it but it does charge what's the problem.? I have 07 e92

i was actually just discussing this very subject with some members at dinner lastnight and E92phreak said that its because the new iPhone uses firewire and the older gens used USB connectors

You've got it backwards, but close enough. They removed Firewire support from the dock connector, meaning that older devices that were designed to charge through firewire (regardless of the actual connector type), no longer work.

Thats why I have a 180 gb iPod. I don't use the iPhone for music.

My upgrade from the EDGE to 3G iPhone connection on the BMW last week was flawed only by the echo while talking on bluetooth. Charging, iPod functions, bluetooth (except for that echo problem), and voice commands all work.

My Iphone works in my car, it would be hard to believe that the new 3G wouldn't.

Hey Paul... it's the other way around. The older gen adapters use the firewire pin whereas the new adapters are using the USB pin.

Yup. Looks like cablejive uses the same manufacturer as Ridax. I thought it was designed and manufactured by Ridax but it seems like a couple of places are offering the same one.

Some of us have the MOST adapter, which is the dealer installed solution that BMW offered before the 6FL solution. It is still available but I would wait for an update on the firewire to USB adapter by the manufacturer before even thinking about getting it (for those who are pre-6FL and want an iPod solution for your car).

The echo not only occurs in my BMW bluetooth, but also with my Motorola bluetooth earpiece... Could be the phone then.

I keep my old skoo iPod in my glove compartment (MOST adapter) and do not use my iPhone 3G for music.
