Rock Auto Closeout List for 2011 e91 328i

Hello all,

Rock Auto emails me this close out list from time to time with several decent values here. 2011 328i e91.

I have no financial interest in this company but a $40 rear bumper might be useful to somebody in the group. Other stuff to check out too at this link that they had sent me:

the fck, 55$ cad for a rear e91 bumper ! I did not look at the shipping, but this is a salvage yard price right there !

looking for a E91 m pack with parking sensor... those are super rare.

they hurt locals part store, but damn they have aggressive price and shipping speed.

Example : Went to Napa to get 4 spark-plug for a RS7, 140$ cad and need to order, not ready to pickup.
fck that, went to rockauto : 38$ , 1-2 days shipping.

I told the guy at napa, he told me he can't follow rockauto pricing, I told him that I understand, but fck more than 3x the price !!! I dont mind to pay 10-20% more, but 3x!!! It's where I look at my wallet instead of local retailers.

Same for liqui molly oil. Napa : 101$, a VW indy shop : 50$ for 5L.

I bought an Msport wagon bumper from there for about $60 and told some wagon friends and there was 10 left. Then someone scooped up the lot and tried to sell them for hundreds each either on the forum or marketplace. I don't think it would work because their commercial shipping costs crush what a private person gets.

Same, I buy the occasional random thing from the local parts store, usually oil on sale for $40 with filter but there is nothing I don't wait on amazon or rockauto now. Rock auto used to be 5 to 7 days but must have a warehouse on the east coast because it's 2 to 3 to me now.

Rock auto is awesome. Ordering parts from them ended up cheaper than FCP for me.

Buy from them when it's a great buy but if cost is close to FCP I use them. I did buy the last of the NGK's listed 4.

I'm not a fan of the big box auto parts stores. Most of the stuff they sell is trash. For example I had a failed alternator on a low mileage Honda, and being in a rush to get the car back on the road I got a new alternator from a local auto parts chain store with their LIFETIME WARRANTY. Three months later it failed so I returned it for a brand new one. A month later that replacement failed. So I bought a Denso alternator on Rock auto and it's been good ever since, going on 7 years now.

That auto parts store wouldn't refund any money only keep giving me replacements, so I kept the latest new replacement as a spare.

Yes, but that $40 bumper cover seems to cost a minimum of $200 (ranging upwards to $450) for Rock Auto to ship it to me in Massachusetts USA.

Unless someone can point me toward some error that I'm making, I've found this universally to be the case with anything from Rock Auto. Their shipping is crazy stupid expensive....especially for large items that obviously would cost more to ship. But I've often found that ordering from another source - even for small-ish stuff that would otherwise be shipped by UPS - is much more cost-effective than the insane Rock Auto shipping prices.

Yep. Adjusted for the exchange rate, that's exactly what I found. I didn't even bother to mention the $1200 overnight rate, as I could hire German leprechauns to hand make it for me for less than that.

w t f? :-)

My personal experience in ordering from Rock Auto is that everything is shipped the fastest possible way from whatever warehouse has the item in stock. So, if you don't care about the final price and just want something pretty much immediately, that all works. But if you can wait a couple of days to get something shipped from another vendor that uses more reasonable shipping, you can usually come out ahead. Sometimes way ahead.

That said, I've managed to buy some things from them where the item price was low and apparently the stuff was in-stock in a nearby to me warehouse (they seem to have warehouses virtually all over the US), so I've gotten things like coil over struts (for another one of my vehicles) overnight for less than I'd have found them anywhere else. Or once I got a Honda alternator for super cheap, again over night. (of course, that was simply thrown into a cardboard box that was twice too big and it's a wonder that the thing didn't tumble out in the back of a fedex truck somewhere between the warehouse and my house). Packaging and customer service are pretty iffy at Rock Auto IMO.

Anyway to get on this email list for certain specs of vehicles? Those are some fantastic deals for high quality parts!

My only dislike with Rock Auto is that they don't seem to be able to put separate items into one order (often because parts a shipped by separate suppliers I guess?). I'm not sure if they actually have their own warehouse(s) with parts.

If you add your vehicle and make an account they will send you items that pertain to your interests.

I also love rock auto. Except they are strictly online and returns can be a bit of a pain.

Thanks for the heads up. They had M sport stuff for dirt cheap yet people were overpaying for Chinese stuff on these “vendor” sites.

If I am looking for a part, I always look for my maintenance stuff with the truck icon to add to it, oil filters, wipers, etc. It saves on shipping

When I picked up the 325i a couple years ago it needed an alternator.

FCP want I think $400ish for a Bosch replacement.

RA had the same alternator for $260. Couldn't ignore it.

I do buy most parts for the 325 or sl500 from FCP but sometimes you just have to purchase elsewhere.
