Hey guys, I have a question. Is it at all possible to use the existing wiring harness in the car and just reassign the pins so that it works with the m5 shift knob? If that is possible then I am guessing I'd only need to make a wire for power? I keep looking at the DIY and I see the female end of the power connection wire going into the power connector under the console but where does the male end of that power connection wire go to?

There is no need for the P-lock. With the M5 knob just press the brake and shift into gear.

Does anyone have a DIY for changing out the F30 335i Steptronic shift handle for the M-5's with the rewiring- similar to what was done here. I was the 2nd owner of an 08 335i and the previous owner had followed this DIY and made the change. Loved it.
I now have an 2013 F30 335i and would like to do the same upgrade, if possible. Don't think the wiring was changed, but the Bentley is not out yet to verify against the wiring diagrams. Thanks |

Thanks to all that posted information on this DIY.
I completed it yesterday, looks fantastic. The wiring harness info is spot on, all the led's light up as they should. To the person that asked, the +/- are always on, they don't change when you shift up or down. I used the M3 knob and a manual shift boot to get rid of the other LED set and make it look cleaner. Loving this mod for about $130 and a few hours of cutting, splicing wires, and shoving pins to berg connectors. Really makes your interior look more modern. |

Just looking into doing this.. Big_C -- how did you do this mod for $130? Do you have a source for cheaper parts?
Thanks! Quote:

It's secure enough for me. Not as tight as the original one, but if I wanted to tighten it up I would wrap E tape around the shaft.
I got my knob from ebay for $110 and the shift boot from the classifieds for $15. Did all the wiring myself with spare parts I had. The only downside is the slightly higher risk of bumping the knob into R when driving..but pay attention to it and you will be fine. Well worth it considering how much better your interior looks with this. |

Hi guys!
@big_c : did you get rid of the PRND blue plate? I'm trying a direct connection blue and white plugto the M3 knob. (in other words, i removed the PRND module) Everything is working fine but I lost the M1 --> M6 sequential feature... any idea? Thanks! |

Follow the wiring instructions and it will work correctly- if you just remove the old PRND module then your sport mode won't work unless it is wired to the new DCT knob

Sorry but I don't understand...
I followed the wring instruction and all is working fine except the sequential mode. When I go from D to D/S --> it stays on D mode and does not switch to M1-6 What did I do wrong? |
