Hit and run ! caught on CCTV
Ok sorry but i need to get this off my chest !
I have had my new E92 325D M sport for just over one month now and yesterday some arse hole reveresed into the panel behind the drivers door and caused the panel to dent in about 4 inches right down the back quarter of the car ! Im absolutely raging, it happened at the Silverburn shopping centre in glasgow and i parked just about as far away from the shops as i could in a nice space whare i thought nobody could possibly hit my car! The car looks hurrendous, the idiot just drove off and didnt leave any notice or informed any security guards at the centre! My only possible saving grace is that when i contacted the CCTV operator at the centre they said they could clearly see a car reverse into the side of my BMW. I just hope that strathclyde police can manage to enhance the grainy quality that the CCTV is most likely to be. If they cant get a registration mark direct line have told me that i will have to pay my excess which is £750 because im a young driver ! I really hope that they get this idiot, police have informed me that they will be charged with three seperate offences which are failing to report a traffic incident, dangerous driving and, failing to exchange details. Cant believe its happened, the last thing which should be on my mind, im getting married on the 30th, and as most will know its not a cheap thing to do. Rant over sorry guys. |

Mate, compared to marriage, you have got off lightly
Only jesting! Seriously, I hope you can get enough details to find this clown. It is one of my nightmares, someone bashing my car on a car park, and just driving away. Hope you get it sorted soon, and don't let it put a damper on your wedding plans, it is only a piece of metal and no one was hurt. Hope you big day goes well and you enjoy it. I got married last July and the first year has gone so quick! |

Thats horrific. Sorry dude, hope they can identify the idiot.
If the police ever make the mistake of letting you know the registration mark of the car (If they can clean it up), ofc you'd need this to sort the insurance out so thats fair cop, then what I'd do - is write to the DVLA with a cheque for £5 and inform them that your wife has bumped this car in a carpark and you feel terrible and wish to contact the owner to resolve, local police told you to contact DVLA directly, so could you have their address please. As soon as the insurance claim is resolved, go and put a 4 inch dent in the back of their car, and another one in the bonnet, and a third one in the passenger door.

I feel for you. Scum.
At least there is the real possibilty you can see who did it. And get them done for leaving the scene of an accident, as well as claim from them (if they have insurance). D.

Thanks everyone, i just hope strathclyde police get this idot. I have been told that they have good evidence but they cannot tell me any details due to the data protection act. Absolute rubbish i say ! My insurance company direct line are saying that if i dont get the registration plate i will have to pay my excess ! Even although i have video evidence of someone driving into my car and driving away ! I cannot believe its happened to me.
Im looking forward to the wedding just not having to pay my excess at the moment, weddings are expensive! |

Give Directline your crime reference, and tell them that Strathclyde Police have the registration number.
Refuse to pay your excess on the basis that SP have refused to give you the number, and advise Directline that as your insurer, you want them to pick that up on your behalf. Your motor insurance probably covers you for up to £25,000 legal cover - the first part of that (and cheapest for Directline) is for their claims monkey (and it will be a monkey) to chase the Police every day. Dont lie down on this mate, both the Police and your insurer have a duty of care to assist you, but you will have to drive this forward. Remember these things - Directline is a faceless corporation manned by idiots, and SP are a faceless government body manned by idiots - lead them and they will follow. Matt |

I will second Matt, Refuse to pay it and get them to chase the police, it sounds like they have got good evidence so hopefully you should get a good outcome and the twat gets the book thrown at him/her. its a disgrace i wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing i had done that. |

Sorry to hear that. Happened to me many moons ago at The Gyle shopping centre in Edinburgh. CCTV caught the car but the couldn't get the reg. Was some big Merc thing that when it swung out during the reverse it caught the door of my wee VX Nova (said it was a long time ago) and caved the door in.
I do hope you get the reg and the police get the fecker!!!!

Very sorry to hear that. Hope you get it sorted.
I had my 3 series paint scratched (luckily just the plastic bumper on the front corner) in a pub car park recently - which I guess will cost me £100+ to paint out three scratches - one of which is quite deep. Chips away job I think. No CCTV. Only good part is that no steel panel was touched. I've also had to have an alloy wheel repaired (again minor) where I just caught the rim on a broken kerb whilst parking. (My fault) All this keeping a car in nice tidy condition is very frustrating!
