Once my car is warmed up, I am usually around 230 or 240. I have no exhaust mods or anything like that so I just assumed it was normal. I have had my car serviced by BMW several times, never asked about it but they never said anything was wrong either.

My car has always run from 230-240. Running the AC in the Dallas heat to the relatively cool summer here in Anchorage - no change. Also, the only mods I have are the BMS and K&N drop in/charcoal delete. Even after those mods, no changes in the oil temp.

I believe temperature is regulated by the thermostat, so your car will almost always hover around the same temperatures all the time. If you think your oil temp should be lower, try making sure the fans work properly, clean the radiators, and at an extreme install an oil cooler.

I have a '11 E92. My temperature normally (after the car warms up) is right around 250. I have seen pretty frequently it going over 250 (the needle slightly moved past 250). Is this normal or I should look into it?

I'm resurrecting this thread. My 2009 E92 328 has run oil temperatures of 230-240 for years and now, I've moved up up to 250 with an occasional bump up to 260 before coming back down to 250.
Anyone else running this same scenario and if so, has anyone else done anything about it? Thanks. |

I have a 08 e92 328i. When its fully warmed up, its usually between 240-245 ish. It has always been that way. Last month, the oil temp hit 253 when I passed through Fresno area which was around 108-113F there.
I have a performance exhaust and AA tune if that matters. |

I idle at around 750 rpm, I'm pretty much at sea level here in Los Angeles, my oil is at max and with or without the AC on, oil temp s pretty much at 250 now.

I would only start to concern if it goes past 255 even when the ambient temperature is lower than 100F). |

Standard BMW TwinPower Turbo LL01 5W-30 "Pennzoil" but, you do bring up an interesting point. Not too long ago, BMW switched from Castrol as their oil supplier to Pennzoil. This is the only change in type/brand I've had in the 8 years I've owned the car. Could this be it? Can viscosity be a little different between brands causing the extra heat? |
