hey, has anyone installed an afe or any other cold air intake yet? This will be my first time and was hoping to get an extra pair of eyes to keep me from blowing up my car....so to speak....any help would be much obliged, and oh yeah, there will be blood (on my end, such a klutz when it comes to all things mechanical), beer, and food stuffs (most likely 'za - Glass Nickel).

I know this isn't for a 335 but it will give you a general overview of what all you'll need to do... http://www.automedia.com/Import_Cold...ht20030901ai/1

But let me ask you, why do you want a CAI that isn't fully enclosed nor really in a place that will get any cold air? |

should've went with the BMW dci then...and its cheaper. i may have to go dci to run the higher boost maps when install my fmic. talked to terry and he recommended i do also to get the best gains especially at the top end. as for the sound, meh, i wouldn't be able to hear it over the eisenmann anyways. lol

dual cone intake
but still.... I'm a big advocate for enclosed intakes because of the heat extreme engine heat you take in with an open air short ram design (like the injen or AFe). I would say at least performance wise, you'll get slightly better results with an AFe or K&N drop in filter in your stock airbox than you will with the AFe open air design. You might get a bit of a sound change from the AFe but you might also notice a little drop off in torque in the 1-3k rpm range too. |

Again, it's totally up to you. If you want sound, it'll give you sound, but if you want performance I'd go with a fully enclosed box. |

yeah that makes sense, and that would explain why enclosed aftermarket stuffs are way more expensive than afe cai......well maybe just for this winter and hopefully the scoops will help a little bit over the spring......

yeah you won't feel a big difference in the winter in terms of loss... not here in Wisc anyway, but come summer, even with the scoops you'll notice it big time. The scoops really only work a little bit (like 10% increase in cooler air) at over 60mph.

oh shit i didnt know it was it was an n52...nevermind about the dci then lol.
udub is right, you will lose torque with an open element filter but nothing that you will feel on the butt dyno, but the torque you lose down low you gain better response at the top end. That's the main purpose of the open intake. To "draw" more air when needed the most at the top of the rpm range when air intake is most crucial.
