Was this past month and as far as I can tell this month too!
Rev stop paying cash for shit! Why use your own when you can use the banks? I'd rather have the cash where it is accesible than dump it all in a car I probably wont be keeping more than 3-4 years anyway.

Not really.. Theoretically, if you cant make more than 1.9% on the money you were planning to buy the car, pay cash.

Most of the banks offer a lot less than the 1.9% on the savings and even CD rate.

If you invest and get moderate 5% return, then finance is the better way.. depends~

1.9% is good, gotta tell my friend, who is looking at a 2007 335i too!!

It may depend for you Billy, but for me, I choose to have the cash in bank no matter what, knowing if I ever had to pay the car off for any reason I could, I would personally just never tie up that amount of money unless it were going into a house or stocks
I only say this because I know I can get a better return on my money elsewhere.

i honestly just prefer paying cash for everything..having bills over my head every month+school bills, i would never be able to cope and would probably destroy my credit report

My car is the only payment I have! I pay cash for everything else. I just feel that cars are the worst investment you could ever make so it makes me ill to think about dumping a third of my savings acount (or whatever it is) on a car.

very true, i have school payments of god knows how much every month that goes out of my bank account, i was left a sum of money, so i figure it should be used to pay off my purchases, whereas if i financed, i would end up paying more money in the end anyway.

+1.

Financially speaking. He is correct. And a 1.9% interest rate to boot.

NEVER tie up your own money if you don't have to. (like a house).

Leverage will help you grow you assets.

Cars are not investments.

They are an expense.

like I said, situations are different for everyone and there is no right answer.

If you only have say, $70-80K free cash or highly liquid asset sitting in bank/some where, then it definitely does NOT make sense to tie up $52K in a car.

You leverage to grow assets, but you have to realize what is your boundary of leverage.

I paid cash for my car in full, just because I was also buying a property last year and if I had financed my car (0.9% at the time!!!!!), my credit rating would drop a tab, which "could" drop me to the 2nd best bracket of financing, and cost me thousands more per year on my house mortgage.. so, it really depends on what your situation is I guess.

Like I said, if you cannot higher return than the rate being offered, buy it instead of finance it (assuming you would still have decent cash flow after that)

No wrong answers here. All are good and pertains to different needs.

PS.

Car is NOT an expense if you use it for business. It is a need and a mean to make more money. It depends on how you view your car.

If your BMW is just for your leisure, I could still argue it is not an expense. It is a mean to happiness that you could actually buy. We all know that happiness is priceless, right? lol.. ok, I'm twisting, but you see my point.
